I Know there is another thread about this but it hasn't been updated in a while. Has anyone found other alternatives to online exercise phys classes? I was going to go through University of New Mexico but the class is $2700!

UCLA is still an option but it's not over in time for BU, and The USSA class doesn't look legit somehow. I am going to try to add it at San Francisco State but because I'm not enrolled there it's not a guarantee, plus there you have to take it with a lab and no one of the schools I applied to require a lab.

Anyone find anything else out there?

I don't even know how that works going through other schools, but I attend Arizona State and took ex phys online. Don't know if that's an option for you.

Thanks, just signed up for the MGH Institute online class. A whopping $1600 which is way to much but still better then New Mexico and it ends in April which is in time for BU in case I actually get in there.

BU accepts the USSA exercise phys, just FYI. That's the cheapest one besides the ucla course that I've been able to find.

That one is a ton cheaper. I have a week to drop the MGH one for a full refund. Samuel Merritt never got back to me about whether or not they accept that course. Does anyone else know?

Sorry for the tangent -- Does anyone know of an exercise physio class offered in seminar format? I'm poking around and having no luck. Something I can attend over a few weekends would be ideal. (My first choice of PT programs doesn't accept online classes.)

Does anyone have info on the USSA Exercise Physio class? There's not much on the website other than a brief overview of what's covered. Just need to know if it has a set schedule vs. go at your own pace? Can you start any time?

USSA lets you go on at your own pace and you can start anytime once you get accepted. I'd say its too late to take it for this round of applications though. It takes at least around a month to complete it.

Ah, so you have to actually apply to USSA to take the class? Do they admit most people or is it some highly selective thing? I don't need to take it for the sake of PT school applications (I've long since submitted those). I have an interview coming up at a school that would want me to have it finished by June if I'm accepted in order to matriculate. If I get the acceptance I'll sign up, otherwise I won't waste the money.

Yeah, you have to apply and send transcripts and whatnot. Seems like sort of a formality/they admit most people... but I have no idea. It was a pretty quick turn around for me, I think it took 2-3 weeks to get accepted. The course gives you 12 weeks to complete. I work full time so I used most of the time, but if you have time to dedicate to it, you could do it much quicker. It's a course that's accepted by MGH, I saw on another thread that you are interviewing there, so that would work for this.

You're awesome, thanks for this info!

USSA has two different exercise physiology classes. They have a self-pased course (CER 520) and a structured, proctored course. If you take CER 520 you DO NOT have to formally apply, it is a continuing education class that anyone can take. My school accepted this credit, but I know not all do- make sure to check with the programs you are applying to. I took CER 520, it cost $150 and didn't take long to complete.

I took the structured "Graduate level" course, however I did not know about the other one. I would check with MGH. They recommended USSA to me, so they are familiar with the program. Ask which they would prefer before you do anything.
And no problem, nomattic - I'm interviewing at MGH as well, so maybe that USSA class will pay off for both of us!

See, this is why I come to SDN to check on things before acting. Thanks to both of you! I'll definitely check with MGH on the specifics.
Yaypt - good luck! What date are you interviewing?

Thanks!! I'm super excited! I'm interviewing next Friday, the 1st. How about you?

Does anyone know which exercise physiology course BU accepts from USSA? There is one listed under the bachelor of science program and another under the masters program.

I'm interviewing this Saturday, the 26th. I'll be sure to let you know how it is. I'm also really excited! It seems like such a stellar program.
