Has anyone taken physics II online with a lab, in a format that is acceptable to meet vet school pre-reqs? If so, could you recommend a school I can take it through?

I'm currently enrolled in other courses full-time on campus, but I wasn't able to do the physics II course here because it conflicts with my schedule, which includes classes I need for my degree in order to graduate in May. I was able to register for an online physics II course through a community college here, but I've been surprised to find out that there is no actual lecture component. The course description says there is, but we actually just read a chapter, do homework, and take the test. We haven't had the first lab yet, so I have no idea what that will be like. Anyway, I'm not feeling successful *at all* just reading the book with no lecture, and I'm terrified that I will bomb the class and it will ruin my GPA! I have a week left to drop so I'm really hoping to find this course somewhere else where I'll feel more confident.

Unfortunately, I do need to take it this semester because I have an interview at Illinois, where it will be required if I am accepted. But I also need to get a good grade, in case I'm not accepted and have to apply again next cycle!

Sorry if that was too much info! Anyway, any recs on an online course would be deeply appreciated!

Hey, I took both of my Physics courses with a lab online during the summers because I had to also work full time and it was the only way I could fit it in! I am currently applying and have interviewed with schools so it has not affected me that I am aware of. I also do not know if they would necessarily see if it was online or not except if it shows on your transcript, which I am not sure if it does or not. Hope that helps!

This definitely helps!! Where did you take the courses?

Of course, no problem. I took them at my local community college because the 4-yr University I was attending did not offer them online only in person and 5 days a week.

Have you communicated with the admission if they accept the online -labs? I am not sure if u of Illinois accept or not but I do know some schools require in person labs starting spring 2022. I would confirm with the admission to see if that online class with lab meet their requirement.

^and get final approval in writing of any online class before you even take it so you’re not wasting money if that class doesn’t meet the requirements, even if they allow online.
Thank you for these suggestions! I just reached out to them to confirm that an online course with a lab will be accepted. Their website says they don’t accept correspondence courses, but it doesn’t mention online courses, so hopefully it will be okay! I’m still trying to find a course, though. I think it’s just passed the registration dates for a lot of places. 😞

I took general physics 2 online at Parkland college in Champaign, IL. They share professors with U of I. The tests were difficult, but physics is difficult. Doable though. I can’t remember if they have a late semester start or not. I would check it out though.

i took it online with a lab at suny empire! they sent us lab stuff through the mail. tufts accepted it. i can’t speak for illinois - if they accept it, it was a great course. i really enjoyed it, which i never thought i’d say about a physics course. it was 2021, though, and i’m not sure if they’re offering it this fall. couldn’t hurt to check it out though!

@max_wildlife I think you just saved the day! SUNY Empire is offering it this semester, with a late start! Thank you so much!! Now just waiting to confirm with UIUC that they'll take an online course. :xf:

A lot of schools take online you just need to check and make sure they accept the course. I applied to 12 schools this cycle that all took my online University of New England Orgo/Orgo labs and Physics courses.

I'm taking organic chem 2 with lab through University of New England. Did you take this course? What did you think?

Coming back to this late, but in case it helps anyone else - I had scheduling conflicts to work with so I ended up taking Physics II online through Western Texas College. It was a lot of work, but absolutely passable if you can put the time in, and UIUC accepted it.
