Online post-bacc?

Has anyone had any success of doing any sort of online post-bacc program whether it was one of those certification programs, online ugrad classes or a mixture of online/in-person classes? I figure it would be weighted less than a successful in-person program, but I'm curious if anyone has had success doing one of these.

What do you mean there is no such thing? Plenty of colleges offer classes online.... There is even quite a few that offer entire certifications.

Okay, let me clarify for you. In the context of getting into medical school, there is no such thing as an online post bac. Since you are asking about post bacs, I am presuming you are either interested in improving your GPA, or switching careers and taking medical school prerequisite courses. In both cases, online courses will do you no good.

To “clarify”? All you did was restate your wrong answer... Anyways OP UC Berkeley extension has online classes in their “Post-Baccalaureate Health Proffesions Program”... I imagine you don’t need the pre-med prerequisites or else you would’ve used the term career-changer (I could be wrong). Berkeley extension will help with creating a trend of performance (they have a decent amount of upper level courses)... If you want prerequisites UNE has online stuff but you will have to call individual schools or use the MSAR in identifying these schools.

Anyway, OP... the position that the majority of medical schools take is that requisite or BCMP coursework or should not be taken online. Also, the online classes I saw were for things like Epi or seminars...

The point of a post bac is to provide you the opportunity to take requisite courses or higher level BCPM classes that will boost your GPA/show adcoms you can handle the material in medical school. Taking online BCPM classes will not strengthen your application, but rather will call into question your ability to master scientific material. You can certainly take online course like epi, but the best it will do is round out your application and show you have interests beyond medicine.

His point, which is correct, is that many allopathic schools will not accept prereqs done online. So, if you complete an online postbacc, you severely limit where you can apply.

Who cares if the credits don’t go toward some BS health professions program. A post-bac for the MAJORITY of students to to enhance not do a career changer . UC Berkeley offers online ONLY classes in Cell Bio, genetics, hematology, medical microbiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.... All of these classes have proctored exams... You are going off on prestige and value of online classes which wasn’t apart of the question. If the OP wants to enhance his app by taking upper level classes online it is possible.

Yeah I have pre-reqs done this would just simply be a GPA boost. I was just curious if it being online would defeat the purpose enough to the point where it was pointless. Or what if I did 2 in person 1 online, do they still view it poorly? This is all just speculation, I haven't decided on anything yet, but if it came down to it then it may work better with my schedule if I'm working as well.

Listen @Pooker_ , I don't know why this other user is going off about prestige or whatever, but there is nothing wrong with online classes if you want to just learn things for your own pleasure, or if you want to get a certificate to supplement your degree/ resume. BUT, if you are aiming for medical school, do not waste your time taking upper-level classes online. For many schools, it will defeat the purpose to the point of being pointless. And this isn't so much my personal opinion, but rather that of medical school admission committees. They will question why you chose to take the class online rather than in person. Ultimately, it doesn't matter what anyone on SDN thinks. You just got to do what the medical schools like. Like I said, if you want to mix and match classes, then your online coursework will only help by rounding you out. They will have little weight when you are being reviewed by the admissions committee. For what it's worth, I did a post bac too and asked many questions about what will count and what will not and what will not make a difference either way. If you don't believe me, then just contact the schools you are interested in and ask their opinion.

Lol I didn't report anything. That's why I was so fascinated with the change. But seriously though, I never attacked you with silly names or with criticisms like "thin-skinned". Not sure why you're so 100% right now, but like, relax. It will serve you well when you are treating patients.

Yes, students routinely take online courses (which may or may not be part of an official post-bacc program). Whether or not you sign up for an official post-bacc program is up to you. More importantly it is what you learn in the course and your grade in the course.
