If you have or are in the process trying to overcome being an introvert before starting NYCOM August 23rd HELP! I am very nervous because I moved to Long Island away from all my family, friends (pre-med and non-med) and I can't bring my cats to my new apartment 😛 . So this has become a very lonely experience. I thought I overcame my shyness halfway through college, but being out for 2 years I have lost my newly aquired social skills.

Maybe I'll take some Paxil and get over it. 😎

There is nothing wrong with being an introvert. You speak of it like it is a disease. So what if we prefer peace and quiet over the meaningless chatter of attention ******? 🙂 Extroverts are shallow emotionally dependant simpletons that live on the gratification of others and can't function if placed in a situation where they have to do anything alone. Introverted personalties prefer to be alone but can adapt to social situations; your lonliness and shyness is another thing all together. 😉

Well....in less than 2 weeks, you will meet >200 people who can help you overcome your introversion. If it's any consolation, there will be a bunch of us who might be somewhat introverted for the first couple of weeks. Me, personally, I will be 4 hours away from my husband 🙁 In any case, keep in mind that we are all meeting new people and starting anew. Let's all hope for the best! I think we are gonna have an awesome class....hope to meet you soon! 😀

Don't worry about it. I just moved too. Being introverted is nothing to be ashamed of. It means you are much better of entertaining yourself and more self-sufficient than some extroverts. Michael Jordan, the most intense competitor I can think of is extremely introverted. I myself am introverted and introspective but I still love social situations and partying. Two more weeks and you'll see tons of people.

Your experience will be what YOU make of it.

It is also noteworthy that we already have a 15-page nycom class of 2009 thread going in the Class Threads section.
