Hey,

How do you guys go about interviews in other states?

Let's say I'm flying to NY from Cali for an interview on Wednesday, August 17th. I arrive the night before, August 16th, and stay at a cheapo hotel/motel. Next day, I find my way to the medical school, attend the interview, fly back the same night, and then I'm back to attending whatever lectures I have at my home university the next morning. Does that sound about right?

Or do you guys normally take a day or two to tour the school/look around the area? Also, is it alright to be carrying around a luggage bag (such as: http://www.amazon.com/Olympia-Delux...PC/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1313609485&sr=8-14) during our interviews? Might be unprofessional but i'm not sure where else I would be able to keep it aside from on my body.

Typically, applicants fly in the day before the interview.

You might stay in an inexpensive hotel but the school may offer the option of a student host which means that a student offers you a couch or whatever. (discussion ensues on SDN regarding the type of gift appropriate for a student host)

You travel to the school for the interview. The student admission office usually has a storage closet for luggage and coats.

Most interview days include a tour and many also include a luncheon with current students.

You leave for the airport after the interview day is over and are back on campus the next morning (barring airline delays).

Sounds about right. You could take an extra day or two to look around if you have the time and the money, but I assume most people don't.

With regards to the bag, many schools will let you store luggage at the admissions office during the day so that you don't have to carry it with you to interviews, on the tour, etc. Some hotels will also hold luggage for you after checkout.

A school I am interviewing at says they do not have space for your luggage anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions? Check out at hotels is usually in the early afternoon, so I don't think leaving my stuff at the hotel is an option.

Hotels often have a luggage room where you can store luggage after you have checked out. Typically there is a modest fee and/or you tip the person who is in charge of the room. Check with the hotel.

That's a great tip. Thanks!

+1. I've never been to a hotel in my lifetime where this has not been the case.

Ya, just try and get a late afternoon flight (5-6pm) and you're good. Most interview days end around 4-5pm anyway, some even earlier than that.

you aren't allowed to put one bag in the admissions office during your interview? wow sounds like cool people run that school
