Hi - I was wondering, should I apply to MD schools of which I have strong ties, or should I save the money/time on private schools instead? I'm a CA resident who was born and lived in Florida for 17 years w/ my dad still there also. I'm wondering if it's worth applying to most of the schools in Florida or should I go for private schools instead?

EDIT: also does anyone know where I should express my ties to the state in the primary? I'm afraid if I don't have a chance to say anything there some FL schools wouldn't send a secondary to me anyways.

@Faha Hi, sorry - I wasn’t sure if it was worth knowing for my question.
MCAT is 519 and cgpa is 3.94 with 3.89 sgpa. Clinical hours 1500 EMT and ED scribe. Non clinical volunteering 300 homeless shelter children tutor and food bank volunteer. 850 hours research as wet lab researcher, clinical research intern (2nd author publication), virology genomics poster and conference presentation. Teaching and significant leadership role 1000 hours. Kaplan MCAT tutor 100 hours. ORM, top public university

I was going to apply to most CA schools aside from UCR, Loma Linda, and Northstate. Similar idea with FL aside from Nova and FSU. I was then going to apply to a lot of private schools and some OOS friendly schools based on Goro’s lists. I was wondering if I should apply to FL schools like I’m planning or applying to many more private schools instead? I’m a FAP applicant so time granted I’d like to apply quite broadly (32 schools).

EDIT: also @Faha i just saw a post on the ca vs fl resident pros and cons. I noticed everyone saying being in state for Florida would be wiser. I realized since my dad lives in Florida I could change my residency in my gap year. My dream is to stay in California, but do you think it’d be smarter for me to switch residency to FL given my application?

With your stats you should receive interviews at Florida schools with your previous residency connection. Apply to all of them except FSU.
