I am looking for some input regarding putting together a list of realistic OOS schools. I am Cali resident with a 3.73 sGPA/3.80cGPA as a physics major and a 33 MCAT from a private T20 undergrad. I plan to apply to all of my state schools but I am pretty lost about where to apply besides that. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Pick up a MSAR, read schools' websites... only you will know what you're looking for. Are you interested in research? Do you want to stay close to home? Do you hate cold weather? Do you want to live in a city? Are you okay living in rural areas? Do you want to be a part of a school with a "campus".

There are infinite criteria to choose from and I would start by prioritizing what you think is important to you academically, professionally, and personally.

This has been asked so many times but...

Get the MSAR and look through the stats, I live on the East Coast so I'm only familiar with schools in this neck of the woods but if you don't mind moving far away-- George Washington, Georgetown, Thomas Jefferson, Temple, EVMS, Loyola, Drexel, Tulane, New York Medical College....

Keep in mind that because these school's are out of state friendly, most of them get a heavy number of applicants especially GW, Georgetown and Temple, I think Drexel gets a lot as well.. this results in them being very competitive so you need to apply broadly.

I agree that it's good to compile a list of "realistic" schools, but your stats seem pretty good and it would be a shame if you didn't apply to at least a few more competitive schools. First off: What kind of location would you like to be in? Major metropolitan? If so, any particular cities? Do you prefer research/specialty oriented, focus on primary care or a bit of everything?Once you've decided where you'd like to be, google "School selector 2010-2011" and I believe it is the second link. Download that excel sheet and put in your numbers to get a rough idea of where you might be competitive/start compiling a list.

Let us know your answers to the above questions and we can help suggest a few schools for you that we think you'd have a good shot at. Personally, I think GW and Georgetown are overrated and extremely competitive for no good reason other than that their location in DC (Georgetown especially). Temple is kind of an unofficial state school for Penn. Drexel is a good option, but with your stats you can do better.

EDIT: Use the excel sheet I mentioned above for judging just by LizzyM Score. You can use this one for a much broader list: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=831618
