Surgical Pathology Fellowship:
Opening for July 2011-June 2012


The Department of Pathology of LSUHSC-Shreveport offers a one-year surgical pathology fellowship designed to provide comprehensive training under the close supervision of experienced attending pathologists. The goal of the program is to train a well-rounded general surgical pathologist through extensive exposure to diverse and interesting clinical material and active research experience, preparing the fellow for either an academic career or private practice. The fellowship is structured to achieve advanced diagnostic skills through an integrated approach in a setting of academic excellence. This will begin with gross room supervision, preparation and interpretation of intraoperative consultations, independently reviewing and working-up routine surgical and consultation cases with ancillary techniques, preparing reports and ultimately assuming independent sign-out responsibility. Elective time during the fellowship can be individually tailored to meet the needs of the fellow and spent in clinical research or used for more in-depth training in various areas of surgical pathology.

Requirements
Board eligible or board certified in anatomic pathology, and be eligible for a Louisiana State Medical license.

Stipend
Stipend is commensurate with year of postgraduate training.

Cytopathology Fellowship:
Opening for July 2011-June 2012


The cytopathology training program at LSUHSC-Shreveport is a one-year ACGME approved program designed to provide the fellow with the necessary opportunities, experience and background to become proficient in all aspects of cytopathology. This includes development of diagnostic skills in the interpretation of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens as well as performance and interpretation of fine needle aspiration biopsies.Training is conducted at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC). Strengths of the program include the diversity of the cytopathology faculty as well as their strengths in gynecologic pathology, gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology, flow cytometry, and fine needle aspiration cytology. The program is staffed by five board certified cytopathologists. Fellows receive personal guidance and gain experience in diagnostic evaluation of all cytologic specimens with histologic correlations, hands on performance of aspiration biopsies of palpable lesions and evaluation of deep aspirates.

Requirements
Board eligible or board certified in anatomic pathology, and be eligible for a Louisiana State Medical license.
