Hi Everyone
I'm re-taking classes through open university at a CSU (california state university). I know quite a few others who are doing the exact same thing. I just found out that open university classes don't qualify for loan deferment. These classes do count for medical school AMCAS/ACCOMAS right? Any admissions people out there can you please confirm that you have accepted people who have open university/extended education units? Would taking classes at a CC have counted for loan deferment?
Thank you!

loan deferment is based on enrollment status & course load. generally if you're not at least half time you don't get loans deferred. you can apply for deferment directly to the lender.

of course this only applies to federal loans. private loans make their own rules.

none of this has anything to do with med school acceptance of coursework. that's about evaluation of a transcript. anything in a classroom at a university is fine.

note that the usual problem with open enrollment is that you need letters of recommendation from science faculty. part time adjunct lecturers often teach these classes, and those are questionable letters vs. faculty professors w/access to school letterhead.

best of luck to you.
