I based this off of other specialties' threads and filled out just the program names for now (apologize for any typos or omissions). Thought it'd be helpful for anyone who might want to start using it!

bump. Everyone's posting where they matched, so check out your co-residents!

YES PLEASE, please fill in the Match 2018 tab so we'll all know who our co-residents are. These will be public knowledge anyway so please don't be shy (programs always post your names and photos on their websites!)

This ranking of the programs seems incredibly off base. What is a "middle-tier" program if almost no programs were ranked below a 7?

As a current resident with friends at many different programs, I agree. These rankings are goofy. However, these spreadsheets are awesome. So much information in such a compact form for current and future applicants.

Congrats to all those who matched!

For those who may not have, this time around--I just wanted to inform you all of a new fellowship position being offered to medical students or MDs.

Pre-Residency Fellowship at Pacific Clear Vision Institute

Dr. Bala Ambati, is interested in recruiting a medical student or MD interested in a future career in ophthalmology for a 1 year fellowship with a 60% clinical, 40% research experience. Clinically, the fellow would be in clinic (cornea/refractive, cataract, plastics, retina, or glaucoma) assisting with patients, learning the elements of the ophthalmic exam, performing minor procedures, seeing interesting anterior segment pathology, and optimizing clinic flow. The fellow would scrub with ophthalmic surgical procedures (2-4 times/month). On the research side, the fellow would be expected to participate and facilitate ongoing clinical research projects such as research reviews and short case series. Pacific Clear Vision Institute is a 3 MD, 2 OD practice in Eugene, OR. For more information, please email [email protected].

This will be a valuable opportunity for aspiring Ophthalmologists to (1) augment their clinical ophthalmic repertoire to shine at away rotations (2) work on and publish clinical research (3) work under an incredibly kind mentor who is invested in you and your success both personally and professionally (4) grow as a student, scientist and future Ophthalmologist!

definitely agree Bronze Medal. Fantastic wealth of information.

In terms of the rankings, I would try and break down your rankings taking into account what I have listed below. The rankings are completely off base, because some of these issues are not covered and you will find if you incorporate them results will be different.

1) Numbers
2) subspecialty exposure - are all subspecialties represented
3) Reputation of the program and notoriety of faculty
4) Fellowship match history
5) Do they have eye center?
6) Do they travel a lot?
7) Malignant vibe or not
8) Small emphasis on the interview day itself
9) leave out location - that is very personal.
10) Were they on probation recently or warning?

Maybe these rankings are just of the interview and not the program? That seems silly though.

Can we make a new tab on the spreadsheet for stats (Step 1, research/publications, volunteer, grades, AOA, etc..) to give the next years group an idea of what to expect

Figured I'd bump this spreadsheet one more time now that all (ie NRMP) rank lists are submitted. Lots of places where people still don't know their co-residents!
