Hi, I would like to know everyones opinion on my situation. To explain, I was working full time for a company in IT, and the company has just been sold and I am out of a job. It is odd, because the timing can make me available to take classes full time. Im a Computer Science grad from Wayne State with a 2.8 Cum GPA. Quite a few of that is due to some lower grades on CS classes. I have started my first BIO class, towards fulfilling all requirements by Winter semester 07, and also apply for 07. Do you think I should take all classes at a community college, or try to mix and match, with university and community college. I am unsure of where I should take my Chem classes, because an advisor told me to take all of the Chem courses at the same university. I know that I need to really do well in the classes and et a high PCAt score as well as get some Volunteer/pharm experience. Thank you for any help or insight provided.

If you're only going back to school specifically just to apply to pharmacy school you are taking a HUGE risk. You should know how unlikely it is to be accepted even with impecable grades. However, schools will average your pre-req GPA as a more serious figure to look at, so don't overly worry yourself about the CS grades.

Having said that, if you want to advance despite acceptance to pharmacy school, I would strongly urge you to take all your classes at one school due to the graduation clauses they have, such as: Last 60 credits must be at a 4yr university, and the last 30-45 MUST be at the issuing institution. This way, if you don't get into pharmacy school you can at least earn another degree.

Now if you get accepted somewhere and just have to finish some pre-req's, then all bets are off and you go where you can.

I have a BS in biology that I split between a CC and a University. I personally believe that the CC was better for me in chem because of the smaller classes. Not to mention that it costs less, but we actually had the professor in lab, not a TA. We could ask all the questions we wanted in lab. We even had mini review sessions sometimes. The only kicker is try to get a faculty member, not a "staff" instructor, as some of them are real screwballs. I took a speech class with one, and the staff instructor didn't give a damn. I got an easy A, but didn't learn anything. YMMV
