Weed is illegal, tons of people have weed.

If guns were illegal, some people would have guns and some people wouldn't... so when I'm driving through Detroit in my nice car and a crackhead puts his gun to my window and tells me to get out I would actually have to get out, or if someone tries to rape my girlfriend he gets to rape her... or even worse, if someone put our President at gun point how is he going to defend himself? What happens when someone wants to rape Michelle Obama? Is B-rock finna taser them? Get real, you cannot separate a man from his guns.

Physicians are conservative. It is what it is. College profs are liberals. That is life, the fields would be a lot different if there were different political affiliations.

You can't argue the fact that France has less murders than the U.S. because we have 5 times the amount of people. Unfortunately not every ghetto has a police department like the LAPD. And trust me, I know the worst of it, kids get shot everyday in Detroit, that being said the other day two 12 year olds held up a Hollywood film crew with shotguns (in Detroit). You think this wouldn't happen if guns were illegal? I CALL BULL****. It would happen just as often, because criminals don't register their guns, how are you going to get rid of all the arms? Is someone gonna rob a bank with a taser? It just ain't happening, you take away my gun you may as well take away my genitalia and my large oversized 8 mile to the gallon SUV.

You're missing some political groups 😛 May just skew your results.

Constitutional-Libertarian?

your entire post is rather laughable. but read this to yourself again.

slowly.

again.

My post is of sarcastic tone, our President is against firearms and obviously the secret service and what-not would protect him. However, I do like putting him in the scenario because the scenario would actually make people think (and it's not like none of our Presidents have ever been shot). The reality of the situation is that in my neck of the woods murder is casual. It happens so often that the news stations don't care to report it. Children are murdered in the way candy is handed out on Halloween. It's sad and pathetic, but most of the guns are illegally purchased anyways. It has molded my views on gun control, political corruption, and corrupt police departments. I personally do not own a gun and have been scared s***less many of times driving through Detroit and some of it's suburbs. Luckily I am quite the large fellow and do not get messed with a lot, my girlfriend however has recently purchased a gun because someone ripped the sunroof off of her car and tried pulling her out of the vehicle in attempt to rob her. I fully support her decision. However, you can laugh all you want, I guarantee you that I can drive you through some places that would make you think twice about whether you would like to own a weapon or not.

oaklandguy because of my institution. However, I'm not going to lie and act like I'm from Detroit because I'm not. But, I am ashamed of what is going on there and I unlike many other people in the area try to do my part and help. I took part in a campaign called "Here's Life Inner City Detroit", I also help out with "Boxes of Love" every thanksgiving, I have been a part of a few Detroit Missions Trips, helped with a few rebuilding type of ordeals and go to a park on 2nd and Sheldon 2 saturdays of each month to hand out food to the homeless. Detroit has such potential and I hate what the government there is doing, I wish I could feel safer about going to a Red Wings or Tiger game.

since we're in an e-pissing contest, i can drive you through some places that will make the worst of detroit look like beverly hills. though admittedly not in my adopted home in the cushy bosom of liberal america. though i wish her nothing but the best, i wonder how much that gun is actually going to help your gf.

I'm sure you can. I found Charlotte more disturbing than Detroit and Washington DC has it's bad parts too. I have not visited every bad neighborhood in the country but I can only imagine. However, I interact with Detroit often, have many friends that attend college there and it's a shame you would never think someone would come back to their car only to see it stolen. Like you just don't want to have to deal with neighborhoods that bad. At least the D isn't top 5 in murder anymore.

She told me it was more for peace-of-mind. She refused to shoot it at the firing range when I took her so I really don't know how much it would do for her, she's just been a little paranoid lately. Crazy story though, the cops apparently beat the living crap out of the guy.

that's what i was thinking would be the case. honestly, that just makes it more dangerous for her to have it. since she actually owns it now, for better or for worse, i think everyone would agree she should take a bunch of classes.

22cal?

Yeah, she's leaving it in her car because that was where the incident happened. They have a fenced off house and her dad has guns up the butt anyway.

She got a raven .25, it was between that and the ruger p95. It was basically her father's decision on which gun to buy and he was all-for her purchasing a gun. Now all I can do is try to get her to purchase a sexy policewomen costume, I wonder if her father would help out with that decision.

Was she driving a convertible or was it really the sunroof that was ripped off?

She might be better off learning Krav Maga.

Sunroof, the man also had cocaine in his system. Not just calling him a crackhead. There was a newspaper article about it, but when I click the link it says the page cannot be found. He tried grabbing her out of the car, her little sister was in the backseat. Just a bad scenario, she got lost in a bad neighborhood. There's other areas in Michigan that are probably just as bad, Pontiac, Highland Park, etc. We need some serious neighborhood clean-up.

I agree. If she doesn't learn how to use it it might even backfire on her (someone without a gun maybe taking it from her and holding her up with it?).

I don't know of any women that would actually be able to respond like that given that situation ^^^. I also think that the guy in that video has one of the deepest and most monotone voices I have ever heard, that being said, he could probably kick my ass. I wish I could just snatch someones gun.

Also, I guess that my statistics are flawed about the murder rate, it's worse this year.

- Good article even though everyone hates the woman who wrote it.

Small arms are fine by me. I'm just wondering why people need to carry around assault rifles. I mean, how many people are you going to have to shoot in one incident? Is a clip of 15 really not enough?

I would say that I would be more terrified by a man holding a sword than by a man holding a gun. Especially if he can run fast.

That is the reason I don't own a weapon. It just makes a situation more dangerous than it needs to be. I'm pretty sure her father will teach her how to use the weapon once she's more comfortable he has the exact same gun but I believe his is nickel plated. It's got a decent kick to it even though it's tiny. The one thing I'm glad she realized is that she doesn't have to be so materialistic, I bet the whole incident wouldn't have happened if she drove a less noticeable vehicle (although I drive what would be classified as a flashy vehicle too). I had to miss out on a Tiger's game already cause she didn't want to go back to Detroit. (She doesn't trust me to protect her 🙁).

I kind of have two cars just for that reason (not REALLY mine, I share it with other family members) but I have a new one I take to school and a REALLY REALLY REALLY old one that they don't even make anymore which I take to less "safe" areas.

I'm with you, but it's the whole ideal. Do you really need 24 inch rims, or an 80 inch plasma t.v? 300 different purses, 20 pairs of jeans? 30,000 square foot houses?

Everyone has that certain thing that they want that they think is super cool. Some people think it's manly to have a gun that could cause more damage than the next guy's.

I do think there is a slight correlation between gun-laws and crime though. In New Jersey it's really really hard to get a gun, yet it's right in the middle of the pack when it comes to crime rate.

Same with me, I have my show-offy car for the summer-time, and I bought something less pretentious for the winter. Paying 2 insurances sucks, but I manage. You have to have something for the winter here in Michigan, and you need something for the dream cruise as well 🙂

Unfortunately her car manages both summer and winter, she's definitely changed a little bit though. Less jewelry for sure which I'm happy about.

You are the most ignorant person I have met in a long time. Go back through history and see what society became once the citizens were disarmed. They became enslaved in dictatorships and led by tyrants. What do you think one of the first things done to the Jews in WW2 was? Before any of the concentration camps, ghettos, or suffering of the holocaust they were disarmed. Although they saw this as just something they needed to comply with to prevent further trouble this was the first step to ensure there could be no resistance. Having an armed society is a basic right to ensure that you are a slave to no one. You are ignorant to think that because we have had a good run as a nation that we are immune from conflict, civil war, revolution. Once you give up your right to defend yourself, your land and your freedom you are nothing more than a slave. We have a tremendous nation but don't be too ignorant to think that we will always be like this. Imagine you a situation like Katrina in New Orleans. Are you going to wait for the police who were incapacitated to save your sorry *** from the gangs?

The right to bear arms is to allow you to defend yourself from all threats, foreign and domestic, including our very own government. If the government becomes no longer for the people, then the people should have the right and ability to overthrow this government. The founding fathers knew this because had they been disarmed there would not have been a revolutionary war. Don't be so blinded with ignorance that everything will be so perfect in our society forever.

Right, because with that semi-automatic rifle, you can take on the U.S. Army. Don't kid yourself. Guns, especially the ones we can legally possess, pose little threat to the military. Save myself from gangs? Do you know how much less dangerous gangs would be if they didn't have guns?

The bottom line is that guns alone can no longer overthrow our own or a foreign government, and their elimination would make domestic threats far less threatening, if you will.

I must agree on your military statement; however, gangs don't register their guns. They don't purchase them from the gun-shop. If guns were illegal, they would still manage to get them, in very similar ways as how they get illegal drugs. So yes, guns would be much less dangerous if they weren't armed, but unarming gangs is like taking weed from gangs or motorcycles from the hells angels. It just isn't going to happen unless their wife divorces them and wins them in court then decides to hand them over to the government.

Most physicians I know, I would describe as libertarian ( ~60%). The rest I'd say are left-leaning. Money plays a huge role here.

Most physicians I know are fairly conservative (almost all seem to be fiscally conservative). With respect to the social issues, while not necessarily condoning things like homosexuality or abortion, they tend to keep a level head and open mind when discussing them (much moreso than your "typical" conservative).

I actually think most are liberal. Liberal presidents tend to give far more money to science and research than conservative. NIH got a huge cut when Bush was in office and started re-doing the budget. Obama gave them their money back.

I get the feeling that most docs are more conservative, but then, in my personal experience I've met about equal numbers of liberal and conservative doctors. I think there might be a few more conservatives since many wealthy people tend to go that direction (naturally, of course, because it is in their best interest).

I'm a moderate who leans liberal, but I am all for responsible gun ownership (excluding crazy stuff like anti-tank canons and miniguns). In the part of the country I grew up in, cougars and bears were a definite concern, not to mention the occasional home robbery. Crazy things happen, and when they do... it's just prudent to have something to protect yourself with.
