Curious to see what people's opinions are on this. The school I will be attending offers an MBA degree alongside the DMD, and you still graduate in 4 years.

I am concerned about the additional course load on top of the demanding curriculum. Also, as someone who has never really particularly wanted to own a practice, is there any other special benefit to having an MBA?

Lol this reminds reminds to a similar question my kid asked, " Do you have to go to business school to open your own practice?" Lol.

In the business world a MBA is not what it used to be for getting a job, other than an ivy league business degree- matters for your first job. From experience, you learn a lot from hands-on.

I would think it would cost more money to get a dual degree? More work and yes, dental school is already very time consuming? It might be helpful if you want to switch to management? Do you really need it? Interests you? dont even want your own practice... I think you should think of the pros and cons yourself and make decision. Whatever you do don't ask the person in charge of the MBA program at your school. That person will try to convince you to get it lol. Ask around in real life & look at dentist's websites.

It really depends what your future goals are. I know someone that fulfilled that route to become a dean of a dental school.

Waste of money

Are there even any benefits of doing this?

I agree. If your goal is to be a regular dentist I don't see the point. That said, if you are interested in other dentistry jobs like the Dean of a school or some big-time management position in corporate dentistry (Aspen Dental), then it might be useful.
