I find it surprising to hear some people talk about getting waitlisted when they have their interviews in September or October. What do you guys think about that? Obivously people that interview at this time got their applications done very early but why would a school take you in the first group of people only to waitlist you so early?

Since early application is key to getting into a school, do a lot fo these early waitlistings occur because maybe an interview didn't go too well, even though their application is OK?

What schools have started interviewing applications already in july?! And btw that actually is a good question, IF a school decides to interview an applicant that obviouly means they like ur GPA/MCAT/personal statement/ECs/letters of recommendation ... so why would they wait list an application post-interview? They don't like your personality or the way you look or the way you answer a question which has no really right or wrong answer?

Thanks doxycycline. I figured it has to be the interview.

I actually posed this question because of some posts on the CCOM thread for 2008-2009 where someone did get waitlisted in October after their interview, and was STILL on the waitlist in MAY!!!! This has happened at various schools so I was just curious what people thought.

I imagine it would be because they like you well enough but the school is willing to hold out for better applicants.

Then they should put your application hold instead of offering an interview, such as what VCOM does. Not a rejection but they are saying they will interview you at a later time. Better than spending hundreds of dollars to fly to a school.

That just goes to show how serious an interview is and how much people take for granted that their numbers are going to do all the work for them. Some people just haven't crafted their communication skills. If you have two applicants with pretty much equal everything and one comes into the interview and wow's you vs. someone who comes in arrogant, terrible shy, or who can't articulate their thoughts then who do you think is going to get the acceptance. The waitlisted person probably was lucky to get the waitlist position due to numbers.

When it is later in the season and people interview in March, then they may get waitlisted just because of the sheer number of people already accepted.

Exactly.
