When it comes to the health care field, asians are not with a minority status..maybe when it comes to law or business i dunno..but healthcare, for sure not. Also you have to look at the demographics for each state. in the midwest, white people makes up like 90 percent of the population or something like that. Of course you will not see non-whites to be the majority of any classes. In California/New York, the demographics are different...so the demographics of the classes will be different

"42.9% for white boys" what about white girls?
African americans are at 33%~...so are they at a disadvantage or advantage?

African-Americans make up 13%~ of this country...asians make up ~5 percent of the country while ~20% of the dental students are asian. white people people makes up ~60% of the country....or somewhere aorund that area.

You bet? cool...but did you ever think about other reasons? such as its not a required field to complete so thats why people don't fill it out. Its not hard for adcoms to figure out which racial group you belong to. They will see you at interviews. there is nothing to "game" here.

sooooo what about QR? higher or lower?

I've lost track of what your trying to say....

Are you talking about blacks vs asians vs whites? or..
white girls and white boys? or...
RC vs QR?

First, the 2009 race data shows the percentage of asians (or any other race) that gets accepted when compared to how many people applied FOR THAT RACE. For example, approx 3000 asians applied, and only 1000-ish got admitted (hence the 35.5%)..... how many asians are in the US population is irrelevant. You say 13% of the nation is blacks, 5% is Asians, and 60% are whites, did you ever consider that ONLY a small portion of each of those is applying to dental school? I mean come on, 300 million population and only 12,000 applicants

second I find it odd that, even tho the race section isn't required, only 500 people decided to "skip" over it, while the other 11,500 populated it. Don't you find it the least bit strange why small portion of the applicants didn't populate it?

And finally, whats your point about the QR? The QR is the LEAST important section of the DAT. I've heard of people getting admitted with 13-15s in QR. Can you say the same with RC???

The whole thing!

in that statement, you compared asians vs white boys so i started to wonder why you left out the white girls. Therefore I asked you "what about white girls"....

Yes yes, I know that there are 300 million americans in the usa and that not all 300 million applied to dental school. I was hoping to show those statistics to show that whites make up around 60~ of the usa therefore of course there will be a lot of whites in the dental classes. also to show that there are only 5 percent of asians-americans but they make up 20~ of the dental students. So this whole thing means that asians make up a big number of the dentists in this country even though they make up only 5% of the country....

second I find it odd that, even tho the race section isn't required, only 500 people decided to "skip" over it, while the other 11,500 populated it. Don't you find it the least bit strange why small portion of the applicants didn't populate it?

I don't find it odd at all. Even if zero or all 11,500 applicants decide to and decide not to fill it out. It's not a required section and its meant to be like that for many reasons. Each person has their own reasons for not stating their racial background and they have the right NOT to put it down. Not just dental applications but with many other applications. You will never know why unless ur that person. out of all things...The problem that I find very "odd" is how on earth did you end up with "I bet you a good portion of those were Asians who didn't mark that section cause they thought being Asians was a disadvantage (Like wiered would say: they "gamed" the system)" ....If you go to California or NY, you will know that asians KNOW that most Asians are NOT at a disadvantage when it comes to education. Statistics from my classes have shown that asians have the lowest rate of people living in poverty. That doesn't mean its at 0 percent but its the lowest of all groups...In that application, there are numerous sections that are not required and people can leave it blank...

And finally, whats your point about the QR? The QR is the LEAST important section of the DAT. I've heard of people getting admitted with 13-15s in QR. Can you say the same with RC???

The point is that there are no points about QR. Most of your post have been about your own personal "opinions" on asians and so I just wanted to know how you think how asians do in the QR section compared to whites since you stated that whites tend to do better than asians in reading. Therefore it was sentence with question marks intead of periods and exlamation marks.

eventually, scores are scores, but if you have really good experiences (community service, research, internships) + really good LoEs (profs+dentists that KNOW you, no lie) i think it will work out.

If people don't get in with super high scores, they may be lacking in their PS, LoE, or extracurricular. The best are compared with the best and at that level, people have crazy shizz under their belts.

yes.... and the point is???? Asians, regardless of what other posters were implying, are not at any disadvantage.... You don't need to bring up the US consensus into this. Sure ALOT more Asians apply (when compared to their 5% portion of the pie) but that doesn't mean theyr at any disadvantage.

Perhaps you should read this.... and by the way, I've sensed the same sentiment from a few pre-health Asians in my schools.... (read the whole thing please)

How in the world would I know how Asians perform in QR? For all I know, Math is a universal language.

My comment was strictly geared towards RC and why I thought there is a 7% difference of enrollment between the white boys (excuse me, boys & girls) and Asians

yes.... and the point is???? Asians, regardless of what other posters were implying, are not at any disadvantage....

my point is asians are not minorities in the healthcare field considering the low percentage in the usa...... which i ALREADY have stated above. No I will not repeat it a third time

You don't need to bring up the US consensus into this. Sure ALOT more Asians apply (when compared to their 5% portion of the pie) but that doesn't mean theyr at any disadvantage.

Obviously, you don't understand and get the point so I'm just going to leave it at that because I can't help you any further. BTW, disadvantange status and minority status are 2 diff things.

I don't need to read anything. You will continue to get these sentiments if you keep making comments like what youve been doing. Either against asians, blacks, whites, yellow, brown, gray, blue....watever....it doesnt matter.

How in the world would I know if you know or dont know? that's why I asked. apparantly you shared your "opinion" on RC so I was wondering about ur opinions on QR.

you don't have a point. You can't comprehend what I was attempting to prove. I say asians aren't at a disadvantage and you think I am talking about minorities (lolz).

LMAO... way to hold up an argument 👍

By the way, in what shape or form did I say anything "against asians, blacks, whites, yellow, brown, gray, blue....watever" ????

How in the world would I know if you know or dont know? that's why I asked. apparantly you shared your "opinion" on RC so I was wondering about ur opinions on QR.

lol, since ur asking random things to see what I "know or dont know"... you could also question my knowledge about nuclear physics, quantum mechanics, hell, anything to throw off the topic.

Judging from your tone (with quotes around "opinion") you clearly disagree with me ~ which is fine. At least provide me with a point of reference, give me your opinion as to why you think I was off, I'll respect it (after all, it is just an "opinion")

Omenino u seem a little bitter. maybe u grew up somewhere where asians are discriminated. dentalworks wasnt trying to say asians are disadvantageous in the dental school application process.

Actually, I can and maybe i should..... since your " answers and opinions" are so interesting.

Good Judgement!

I know you WILL respect it. When its worth it to give my opinion then ill give my opinion.

Apparantly you still don't understand and im not going to spend anymore time with you. Therefore I will leave all of ur comments alone and won't even read one word from any of ur post from now on. Good luck and game over for you....I WIN!!!

whoa crazy thread lol. How can a ethnic group be at any disadvantage when they are a minority at a population level and a majority within the sub-population in question? If anything it would be more logical to consider that they're advantaged towards health professions.

One thing I dont understand is why more whites are not going into the medical/science field? Females also seem to be gaining an edge on males (nothing wrong with these things - just an observation). I remember being in my basic science & math classes thinking to myself "got to represent" as I was one of maybe 10-15 white males in these classes of 100-150 students.
