Just wondering if people prefer Rosen or Tintinalli, and if so, why? Also, since I'm going to Cook County next year, if any current CCH residents are reading this can you tell me if there is a preferred textbook within the program? Since I'm only working like 90 hours a week, and I have this book allowance, I figure I should start reading for next year.

Cheers,

I take it you have been granted a spot outside the match and that you are currently in residency? If so, congrats! I prefer Rosen's over big T because I feel it is more concise and contains less academic trivia in favor of good practical management strategies. That being said, I also think TinTin is a necessary evil to get the trivia needed to pass the boards. Honestly, if you are looking to read now, I'd get a copy of Carol River's board review book, read it cover to cover (outline format, quicker read), and add to that book with what you learn along the way....

hey, not @ CCH (the whole transitional year thing really not my bag), but a very good friend is. they read rosen's due to departmental preference.

o/w agree with everything niner said.

hey im a pgy2 at county, and we have monthly reading assignments out of rosen's. but i have both. i'd consider looking on amazon marketplace, you can get a cheap tintanelli's for about 100 bucks. that's what i read during my transitional year.

The first year residents at the program I spent my summer at were all supposed to be reading Tint, but they worked a lot so one of the chiefs recommended Tint's "Just the Facts." If your book budget will cover it, might think about getting it.

Thanks to all for the input.

In response to your question niner, I matched at County last year and elected to do a medicine prelim year instead of a transitional year.

thanks for the tips.
do any of these books have tips/tricks on procedures? central lines, LP, intubations, IABP, etc?

thanks
