Hi Everyone!
I am opening applications for people who would like to contribute as an author for the high-yield MCAT book. In short, the book is a comprehensive compilation of high-yield facts and mnemonics that pinpoint exactly what you need to know to pass the test, authored by students who excelled on their MCATs, reviewed by top faculty across the country, and updated annually with crowd-sourced student contributions with study and exam prep tips supported by learning science. If you've heard about "First Aid for the USMLE," that's similar to what we're doing, except for the MCATs.
In terms of the work difficulty, all you would need to do is copy/paste into the 3-column book style. All material that will be going into the book has already been found, written, or compiled so you just need to edit the information into the book format. We'll be using OneDrive and Microsoft Word Online to share manuscripts. And since it's all organization work, MCAT is not necessary but preferred.
In terms of time commitment, it depends on what section you would like to do and how much time you need to spend to finish a section. For example, if you decide to do the entire B/B section, then it will take a lot of time, but if you choose to just do the amino acid subsection, it'll take less than an hour to format everything. Similar to when working in a lab, there is no weekly time commitment - there's only a specific date you have to finish your section and you spend whatever time you need to get it done by that date.
The book is intended for commercialization but the first edition will be free and available on Amazon for download with the expected publication to be in November 2018. We are working with a nonprofit publishing house for editing as well as a legal clinic for copyright, trademark, and other legal needs. As you can imagine, this really is an ambitious project, but we have students and faculty from universities around North America working on the book. Becoming an author to a resource that will potentially be used by thousands of premeds for their MCATs will be extremely impressive on your applications, but be sure you really would like to take time and do quality work on this book.
More details can be found on the website at www.bit.ly/mcatbook. Interested candidates should fill out the form as soon as possible: MCAT Review Book Author Application
Edit: Update: Everything is written but only 10% is edited. 1st edition: ebook free, $9.99 for a physical copy. No legal risk involved, you can keep your intellectual property-you just need to make an agreement with the publishing house; It's a nonprofit so there is no ownership period
