How important are Optics, Waves, and E&M for the MCAT?

In other words, is it realistic to self study those physics topics and do well on whatever MCAT throws at your regarding those topics?

high-yield imho. self-study: yes! and do well with a lot of practice: yes 🙂

have you taken physics 2/3?

a good review book, Khan / YouTube, and self-studying should be sufficient

You should seek to apply your knowledge. QPack is good for gauging your knowledge of the facts. Section Bank is good for gauging whether you're good enough with the knowledge to apply it to MCAT-level questions.

Those topics can easily be related to the eye or ear within a passage. If it has direct biological applications, it's high yield & need-to-know.
