CA-1 here who attends a program that does not adequately prepare us to do well on the boards. A few of us are trying to get together every couple of weeks outside of work for a "get together/study/case discussion". Do any of you have any recommendations for the format of such a group?

Specifically, should we try to go over a couple of keywords each session? Should we have a case discussion and then go over Hall questions? I'm looking for ideas. We're trying to avoid the same old boring format of powerpoint or going over bullet points.

Thanks

I like Faust a lot. Short, sweet chapters, great reading from CA-1- CA-3 year for the basics-- How about assigning 2-3 chapters each session with one person assigned to present each chapter to the group (summarize) even if everyone reads all of them-- and they can fill in any gaps with supplementary reading. Then a few multiple choice questions on the relevant topics and you're set!

Questions, questions and more questions. Get the Hall/Chantigian books and the retired ACE questions and do them in blocks of ten, learning why the wrong answers are wrong and the right ones are right, etc.

Hall and Chantigian was great for the ITE, but I felt the actual test was harder and focused less on core anesthesia stuff and more on physiology. I would probably do keywords, since these topics come directly from your ITE performance.
