You know how one has to get extra practice hours besides rotations in many states in order to get licensed? So I was thinking, if I worked as a pharmacology TA at a summer camp thing where the kids take classes (CTY, if you've heard of it), would this count for hours?

I just got feedback from my academic advisor. She said that it doesn't count 🙁 I have to actually work in a pharmacy"participate in the practice of pharmacy" and have a preceptor and such. There are no preceptors at a summer camp, and it's not really pharmacy practice participation. Oh well, I might still do it if I don't get a nice pharmacy internship, hours or no hours. I'm sure it's still a sorta useful thing to add to the resume, and I'll probably learn some pharmacology from it as well (good since it'll be the summer before I actually start taking pharmacology).

You may want to contact your state's board of pharmacy to see what they say about options for internship hours.

you want to teach pharmacology even though you haven't had it yet?

TA, not teach. There's also gonna be an instructor there.

CTY is a program for gifted kids in grades 5-9, with some programs for older students as well. If I TAed pharmacology (this would be a 7th-9th grade class) I feel I would still be qualified because of the drug knowledge I would have gathered by that time (microbiology, physiology, biochem, etc...). It's not like I'd be TAing a college pharmacology class. Right now I work for a CTY 5th-6th grade site as an RA. Best summer job ever, but it's time to move on.

And thanks everyone, I'll contact my board of pharmacy to see what options I have, even if this option won't give me hours.
