Besides the standard options for physicians who complete their training under J1, including completing a J1 waiver under Conrad-30 or non-Conrad-30 programs, the 2 year home country requirement, delaying the home country requirement via another visa (ex. O-1 visa), what other options are their for the Canadian physician who compeltes their residency training in the U.S.? Unsure how accurate or trustworthy this source is but it suggests a way to live in Canada and commute to work in the U.S. for example in places like Michigan-Windsor and Buffalo-Fort Erie under the "H1B status" and complete your home country requirement (http://www.visalaw.com/healthcare-n...her-strategies-for-the-canadian-j-1-physician). Is this even a viable idea and would employers allow this kind of arrangement? Would love to hear others' input in this. Thanks.

I can confirm that "sleeping in Canada" is possible for the return to home country for Canadians. Just need to get approval for H1b status, likely through a non-lottery H1b application (company need to be non-profit that does some sort of educational training in the organization). Most border facilities are open to this process.
