Concise, but not entirely accurate. There are various non-surgical areas of ophthalmology. Here's my shot at it:
Optometry=primary eyecare and disease screening, low vision, CL fitting specialists
Ophthalmology=surgical and medical treatment specialists

I'll further the accuracy.
Optometry=primary eyecare, disease screening & non-surgical medical TREATMENT, low vision, CL fitting specialists, vision therapy
Ophthalmology=surgical and medical treatment specialists

No one can actually argue that ODs don't treat eye disease. If they do, they are just making things up.

treat is a relative term...

It was my intention that the term Primary Eyecare involved diagnosis and treatment of uncomplicated eye disorders....so the treatment aspect was implied.
I think the OP wanted more of an idea of the differences between the two specialties. Since both diagnose and treat eye disorders and diseases, I was just trying to summarize how they differ.
good I am glad u said that.Tx Guy said:It was my intention that the term Primary Eyecare involved diagnosis and treatment of uncomplicated eye disorders....so the treatment aspect was implied.

We do treat eye diseases. An example of which will be Glaucoma. we can even specialize in pathology if u havent known. DO SOME RESEARCH.

I'm aware of these things, thanks, and I'm more on your side than you think. You haven't heard me say that OD's don't Dx and Tx eye disease. I'm actually a proponent of forming more of a national recognition of the OD as the primary eyecare provider to help end OD v. OMD squabbling. But, for the sake of the OP's question, I'm outlining the difference b/w the OMD and OD fields. Just curious, how do you answer the OP's question?
I'd like to congratulate the moderators on their patience towards certain immature, lame, and petty members. This is an open optometry forum, a forum devoted to discussing all aspects surrounding the wonderful profession of primary eyecare professionals who diagnose and treat disorders of the visual system. This member should have been banned a long time ago.
