Hi hope everyone is well with good health.

I am a optician living in Canada, interested in optometry. My question is that are there any schools in north america, england or any other place which don't require bsc????

Someone told me that in england you can get in straight from high school or if your a optician that they will automatically put you in second year????

Also i read in indiana optometry school bsc is not a prerequisite but obviously is first preference.

Any help will be greatly appreciated??

There are a few schools here that don't require a degree but strongly recommend one. All require at least some college, so no, you cannot go to OD school in North America straight out of high school. I think in India and maybe some places in Europe you can do it after high school. But with only having a bachelor's of optometry you can't practice here in the States (not sure about Canada).

yeah, in the UK, i think you go into the OD program straight out of highschool and tuition is free.

If you plan to go to school in North America you must have at least three years of undergraduate university studies. It is true that in the UK you can enter their program right out of high school, but i would caution against it as the Canadian regulators are looking to crack down on this option - apparently one school in the UK has more than 20 canadian students. Also if you go to school in the UK you'll have to have at least a few years of undergraduate work in canada or a few years of work as an optometrist in the UK before you are eligible to enter the UW Bridging program for returning to practice in Canada. Also, with the british option you will not be able to practice in the USA as all states require that you hold an OD degree.

I mean there's no OD programs, they're all bachelors in optometry.
Different game.

Well yeah, but.. not to split hairs or anything, but if you're going to school to be an optometrist, wouldn't your schooling be an optometry program?

yeah, I would, but theres always that issue of coming back to canada, or the usa to practice.
