You got pretty much the same reply I received when I posted this question last year.
Most of the ones I looked at looked pretty good. I was too late for one of the courses and did a one day-6 hour- one in Dallas.
I was freaked about taking the orals and did just fine with that one short course and a little review.
I think most people including myself psych themselves out. It really was a straightforward exam that anyone who finished residency and is currently working should have no problems passing.

If you have any questions reply or email me I'll give any advice I can.

Cool, thanks. Unfortunately, I don't think there is anywhere really fun so I think I am going to take the dallas course, once I find out when I am taking the fracking things.

I am not to wigged. I just want the practice for the format. And a nice review, in a reasonable place to take it.

That's the main thing is learning the oral board game. Once you learn the format just practice it with someone else.

By the way anyone want to buy the Rivers Oral Board Review CD's? I think I bought them from someone else for around $90 or 100.

OH ACEP has highly regarded review courses, and I think their oral review is pretty well regarded, too. I believe they have a day one which includes some review and simulations. www.ohacep.org

The Illinois ACEP is the one that does the simulation AT the airport hotel, if you're into the whole ambiance thing.

We practiced oral boards a lot for the format.

Here's the tips they always gave us:

-"What do I see when I walk in the room?"
-Ask for all vital signs (at least they would always leave out a T or POX)
-Talk to everyone
-If you give an intervention, check to see if it changes anything
-All drunks have head bleeds
-All kids are abused
-It doesn't seem like you get bonus points for being cost effective or "cutting edge" (don't be a lot smarter than the test). Do the head CT, etc.

-Write down an ED note format and physical exam with all major sections as you begin (develop some system) or you'll forget to do a neuro exam on a stroke patient. I forgot to examine someone period on when I knew it was a type A dissection.

There is a new Oral Board Review course in South Beach Miami called DocStar--2 day format. In their second year now---good feedback thus far-Low student:instructor ratio. Check them out at docstareducational.com

I was an instructor for the course last year and I can state that having passed the boards last year, it is right on as far as simulation of actual board cases. Plenty of cases and individualized attention. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I had not heard of this one. I am taking the May 3rd Oral Board and am looking into courses. Here is what I have found for spring:

Emeds (https://www.emedsinc.com/default.cfm?content=_board_review/registration.cfm): 3/28 in Dallas and 4/8 in Dallas ($695 for '07 residency graduates)
SCCEP (http://www.theoralboardcourse.com/): 3/31-4/1 in Charleston ($1250)
DocStar (http://docstareducational.com/): 4/2-4/3 in Miami and 4/14-4/15 in Las Vegas ($1200)
AAEM (http://www.aaem.org/education/oralboard/): 4/2-4/3 in Las Vegas and 4/19-4/20 in Chicago, Dallas, LA, Orlando, and Phily ($?)
NS-LIJ (http://www.emoralboards.com/): 4/6-4/10 in Hilton Head ($1795)
ICEP (http://www.icep.org/admin/events/files/2008OralBoardBrochure_web.pdf): 4/11-4/12 in Chicago ($535-750 for ACEP members)

anybody have any others they know about or recommend?

Thanks,
Andy

Hi Guys,

I took the Hilton Head (SIUH) course -- emoralboards.com.

It is 5 days and I totally loved it. Everyday I practiced and had new questions and could ask someone. I got better and better. We were done by 1 or 2 pm and spent the rest of the time chilling out on the beach, golf course, water sports. Totally Awesome. I went there with my family and we all loved it.

I got 30+ CME hours as well and use dthat money to pay for it.
It was the best and I saw a lot of people who failed after other courses there and they all passed. I totally passed as well.

IT IS WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!
