where are people staying for the oral boards fall 2014? i've heard people suggest staying somewhere other than the o'hare marriott, because the environment is wound a little tight, but it also seems really convenient, and there's a direct shuttle to and from the airport.

I stayed at the Springhill Suites Chicago O'Hare for step 2 CS. They had a free shuttle to/from airport and step 2 CS testing site (I imagine that would drop you to the Mariott as well, you could call to ask). Free breakfast. Might be a good option (and probably cheaper than the Mariott).

I have always stayed at the official hotel of any test or CME that I have gone to and have yet to regret that decision. At least if you pick that hotel you have some reassurance that you won't have a loud wedding party on your floor.

I can second Springhill Suites Chicago O'Hare by Marriott. There is a shuttle that will take you to and from the airport as well as to the testing site. The hotel also has an Outback Steakhouse in the lobby and serves continental breakfast.

Just looked on the marriott website for my fall oral boards date. The rate for Springhill Suites is 179, the Marriott is 279. Both of those are more than I planned to pay.

i'm fairly certain my shop reimburses us so price isn't the biggest factor. but looking on a map, the airport marriott is looks like it's in a highway/hotel abysss and anything not immediately marriott-adjacent seems like it would be really inconvenient.

The Mariott is a two minute walk from the blue line so literally any hotel near a blue line stop is doable. Obviously you dont want too long of a commute to the boards, but just a thought. I stayed at the airport Hilton for cheaper and just hopped the train two stops and was there in under fifteen minutes.

When I took step 2 CS, some other test takers did take the blue line(I assume without difficulty). However, I would caution anyone to drive to the test site (people got stuck in traffic).
Could you share a hotel room with a fellow attending/friend/residency class mate? Might help cut down on the costs.

This isn't the place to save money. Stay very near the correct hotel so that the only think that keeps you from getting to the hotel is broken legs. Trains break, traffic jams, and ABEM won't care.
If you want to stay in the city after the test, feel free. But not on test night.
