i had one today and i totally was 😕 ...

i seem to do well in written tests but when it comes to these orals i cant answer them.... while in the written exams i just have to answer the question in an organised way and have time to think too. but in orals- the random questioning of the different chapters never works for me. and i feel guilty too because the prof will have a lowly opinion of me!!

plzzz help!

That is a natural problem for many people. Oral exams are almost always more difficult than a written...no matter what the topic is. Good ways to combat that are simply to talk aloud to yourself a lot when studying, do group studying where you force yourself to explain answers to others, and just doing more than reading a book in general. If you take an active, answer on the fly type of approach to education then you begin to organize your thoughts a lot faster. It helps to not be a complete perfectionist as well. Basically if you know that is coming....get a group of people, have each of you dig through the material and find a range of questions from easy to insanely difficult, write out the answer to it, and then quiz each other ont he stuff. If the person is wrong (and sometimes if they aren't) explain in detail why that is the answer to them. You learn the most by preparing the answer and then explaining it then just by staring at a bunch of material. It is just too difficult to call up sometimes.

boo hoo. clinical medicine is oral; get used to it.

You get a good chance to practice your oratory skills in the school that is PBL-based. That said, it is the only good thing about the PBL school.

i got my anatomy results today and i flunked the test (by FOUR marks🙁 ).....

i would have passed it if i had got just a little more in my orals (got just 20 for 40)

anyways the total pass percentage in my class was 4%

but i could have passed !!!!!!!!! 😕 :scared: 😱 🙁

They'll probably institute some massive curve. Or make your later exams much easier, with the first one like this so as to shock you all into the realization that this is med school and you're not the 100-watt in a 40-watt room anymore. No school wants 96% of the class retaking anatomy over the summer, so don't freak out over the first exam of the first year (see thread on SSRIs). We don't have oral exams, but I'd imagine it's just something else that gets better with practice and will definitely help during rotations and Step 2 CS.
