Hi ..While filling out a DEA 222 manual form to purchase C-II meds, can the pharmacist sign the order as an Agent without having a written Power of Attorney from the actual registrant/ owner?

Pls. Help. Thanks in advance.

Not in FL at the very least. While teching at CVS, our PIC went on Vacation before our new staff pharmacist got POA. The DM made the PIC come back to the store halfway through his 2 week vacation to write up an order.

Thanks for your reply.
My boss's reasoning was that at chain pharmacies, many times the floaters who need to place a C -II order, do not have a POA in place and they still sign the DEA 222 as an Agent.

I am very hesitant since I don't want to violate any rules.Appreciate the feedback.

PIC probably pre-signs those forms for them. Also, what do you mean by "agent?"

Your boss is a dummy. Never listen to them.

IN IL, the pharmacist must have power of attorney. I would think this is standard everywhere? As mentioned, the only way I can see a floater ordering CII's is if the PIC presigned the CII order & trusted the floater to fill it out (I've seen this happen), or if the floater regular comes to that store & had been given POA.

1. it doesn't matter what state you are in - this is a federal law
2. Did you take your boards? This is a basic question that anybody with a license should know - of course you have to have power of attorney to sign a 222
3. Some chains will allow you to place an order (where electronically or not) and then someone with a POA actually fills out the 222 at the warehouse.- This is what my old Eckerd store would do

Hey guys, I have a question. I recently started Pharmacist-in-charge job at an independent pharmacy. So to order C-IIs, do I need a power of attorney from registrant/previous PIC? OR PIC automatically gets the authority to order C-IIs??

I thought POA was really easy to get, just need 2 signatures and you are set right?
