Hey everyone! I have my organic chem 1 final tomorrow morning! I've been studying so much and I think I'm ready to stop now. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on how to stay focused during the exam...I'm worried that I'm going to get a mechanism problem and completely blank out on everything I've studied. I'm just curious if any of you have some advice on how to keep a clear head and extract important info from my brain during the exam! Thanks! 🙂

Keep calm, don't try and force yourself to say "I won't blank out" just let that that feeling come and go without worry. You're ready for this test, everything you need to know is in your mind and you are in control. No need to worry, you'll do as well as studied.

8 hours sleep, breakfast, and comfortable clothes. Kill the test slap the professor when you hand in your test, and sleep with his spouse to show him/her who is boss.

If you do blank out, don't agonize over it, just move onto the next question. Your brain will subconsciously continue to think about the question you blanked out on, and hopefully you'll be able to figure it out later.

Good luck, I hope you do well!

Always happens to me, and you're completely right about figuring it out later subconsciously.

Whenever you get a mechanism problem or any of the reactions from the last unit...break it down into the most simple terms.

for example: okay, I'm looking at this reaction and drawing a blank...well, first off the reactant is an alcohol. Okay that means I have 6 or so reactions that it could be. then you look at what the reagents and other reactants are and can narrow it down the most.

Flash cards help tremendously with the reactions.
Also, with mechanisms...don't forget that all reactions are is the movement of electrons. Understanding nucleophile/electrophile relationships help a lot as well.
