How important is this in MCAT? I still remember a lot of the IUPAC naming since it never really changes except to add new substitiuent names, but I'm sure I'd get tripped up somewhere if I dont review it.

Are there actually questions where they ask you about naming in the MCAT? Does it come up in passages? Both?

Nomenclature is pretty important. I have only seen one question on a practice test showing a structure and asking for it's name, but I have had many questions where either the question uses the name (you need to be able to draw it from the name), or the answer choices are names (you need to be able to draw the structure of the answer based on the question, and then convert that to the proper name).

For example, the question might ask what the major product of some rxn is, and show you the structure of the starting compound. You might easily be able to draw out the structure of the product, but the 4 answer choices are compound names, and they're incredibly similar. If you don't know your naming rules very well, you're reduced to guessing on a rxn that you knew extremely well.

Guess I'll have to brush up on it. Probably wouldnt worry about it if the MCAT wasnt timed... lol 🙁

I probably wouldn't worry about anything if MCAT isn't timed...I would score 40+ if given me all the time I needed to finish this test!
