I'm planning my fall courses (DIY post bacc) at my local community college in Austin. I want to take some upper level science courses though. UT extension offers a few premed classes: bio 1/2, ochem 1/2, genetics, biochem, but no labs. Is there a way I could take the lab portion at a cc? I would really like to take orgo at a university. I thought about registering at UT as a non-degree seeking student, but the admissions rep said I'd have to apply for regular admission and it would be very competitive. I was kind of surprised because my alma mater would let anyone register for a class if they were a non-degree seeking student. Any suggestions?

Get your guns up and get back to the L-B-K!

Why not take the org lab+lecture at the CC?

Wreck'em Tech!! I left Lubbock last year. There are times I miss the South Plains (especially Chimy's lol). The lecture at CC isn't offered at night. I'm working full time right now so I can only take night/weekend classes. It definitely requires some creativity.

Haha I like it here, think I'd like Austin much mor though. Is Texas state an option? Probably easy admission. Check to see if they offer the lab as a separate 1 hour class. Probably 45 mins from you but if it's once a week and your only choice, it ain't bad.

Taking pre reqs at CCs in general is something you want to avoid. If you can't avoid it, you can't avoid it but is there another university you can take it at? It doesn't have to be some big name like UT-Austin, just as long as its a University and not a CC it will be of benefit to you.

Get MSAR and find out whether the schools you might think about applying accept CC credits. Do what works best for you. CC credit is not that bad, although obviously not as good as university credit.

If you prefer, you can take the 4 chem labs online at UNE: http://online.une.edu/science-prerequisites/. They also have 4 cr genetics and biochem, but those 2 courses are no joke as some threads and ratemyprofessor claim.

That looks like a great option! I thought that online coursework was frowned upon though. Would adcoms care if your upper level science courses were online? I work full time. Idk if they factor that it.

I believe NYIT is the only school that may have an issue with online prerequisite courses, but online upper div is good everywhere.
