You want to take both of those classes during winter session? That is not a good idea if you want to get A's in my honest opinion. One of those with lab will take up all your time

I don't understand what you mean. gen chem is twice a week with lab after lecture on one of those days( Mon/Wed lecture and lab on Mon or Wed, our choice) and the the first semester of organic is one day a week without lab, so how would that take up all my time? I'm sorry for seeming unimformed! 🙁

he/she probably wasn't aware of how your schedule worked for those classes. I wouldn't think that it would be too difficult, especially since they're both chemistry and the information given for each class will probably interelate with one another.

Aaagh! Don't do it! Gen chem and o-chem are totally different animals, and I would disagree that they compliment each other when taken together. They are both important enough subjects that your full effort should be placed into them individually.

Wow. At my school, Organic met 3 times a week and the lab met twice a week for 8 hours total of lab time. So I would have given you the same advice about those 2 classes at once taking up a huge amount of time. Once a week sounds like it could be ok. I would advise you to talk to the Organic professor and see if he/she thinks it is a possibility to take the 2 classes at once. They may require completion of a full year of gen Chem or they may say that it is fine for you to take Chem II and O chem I at the same time. Also maybe talk to your Chem I prof (or someone else who is familiar with your course work) to see if you as a student would have a tough time with this course load. If you have time to spread the courses out, there is no need to get over loaded and risk getting a lower grade than you may have been capable of. Organic is a tough class and is very different from gen Chem. They don't really have much in common with each other. I would not have wanted to take them at the same time, but that is just my personal opinion. Maybe you would do really well in both at once.

Good luck. :luck:

They're not just referring to classtime and labtime alone. Organic chemistry lecture will require you to study quite regularly. The material is cumultive, so you cannot afford to stay behind!

Just giving you a heads up of the outside time required for these courses! (I didn't even mention Gen Chem, but the same rules apply)

thanks for the replies so far. if you have anything to add go right ahead. 😉

I say don't do it. Isn't winter session 3-4 weeks? I'll tell you, you will get the best answer by going to both instructors' offices now, and asking them if it is manageable if you want both A's. You can probably find their email addresses if you google their first and last name + name of your school. That's what I always did. Good luck and becareful. In my opinion, 1 A is better than 1 B and 1 C. Of course, I don't know your circumstances (time issues, financial, etc.)

winter semester is 15 weeks guys. only the spring and summer semesters are 7-8 weeks. I would never do that 4 week stuff are you crazy!! 😱 anyway I think that maybe everyone that replied thinks that the semester is short but it's not it's 15 looooong weeks!!

well I thought I would go and check out the winter semeter class listing and what do you know, they aren't even offering org I. they are offering only org II next semester, but I won't worry about it because they have a class called survey of org/biochem that looks pretty interesting. I think that this selection may be of some help for me to get to know some factors in organic and biochem since I'll be taking them both anyway!! thanks guys.
