Hey guys, I was wondering how specific is the ochem on the PCAT? It says elementary ochem so does that just mean know the different kinds of hybridization, hydrocarbons, carbonyls, and the different formulas to determine an alkane (C2n+H2n+2) etc? I took it last year and am just reviewing my old notes but it seems to me they wouldn't ask too specific of questions such as spectroscopy or nucleophilic substitution reactions, or am i wrong? Thanks.

yes, all u listed was on the test. I didn't see any spectroscopy. THere were basic reactions from org 1 and basic subst. reactions

I definitely remember some nucleophilic subsitution being on the test. Luckily if you didn't know the anwer you could usually look at the answers provided and find out the right one.

There were no reactions on my test. You do need to know functional groups though. And all the things you listed. Also, be able to recognize lipids, carbohydrates, etc.
