Hey, I'm debating whether or not to take organic in the fall. I am majoring in athletic training and taking my prerequisites for DPT. I only seen 2 schools that said organic was highly recommended. Should I not even waste my time? Thanks 🙂

Bustedgrill is my husband I am using his account. Just in case any of you were wondering why the switch lol.

If you can, take a second semester of general chem. Almost all of it is going to be forgotten and never used again anyway, and to my knowledge O-Chem specifically is not a prerequisite anywhere, so just make it easier on yourself unless you're also entertaining thoughts of med school, dentistry, or pharmacy.

Don't waste your time. Take regular Chem 1 + 2 plus labs.

I already took chem 1. I am in chem 2 right now. Thanks for the advice!

Orgo will be a waste of time, unless the subject really interests you and you want to take it just for fun. It will basically be useless in PT school. You have SOME chemistry, like pharm or some internal med stuff, but you will not need orgo. PT school is a more physics-based curriculum.

I am signed up for physics fall 2012 and I plan on doing them in sequence fall/spring. I was then going to do the biology in sequence my senior year. If the pt program is mainly physics should I wait to take physics till my senior year and take the biology sequence this coming fall/spring? Thanks again.

Personally Organic Chem REALLY interested me, and I loved the subject matter... The problem is, it was SO hard. The average grade is about a 50% (and that's a C), and not only in my class, but obviously everywhere. It's just a hard subject matter to weed out kids from going to med school.

Unless you want to take a hit in your GPA, don't do it 😉.

But definitely audit the class! 😛

Be sure to check the prerequisites for all of the schools for which you're interested in applying. Some PT programs do require a semester of organic chemistry.

I apologize, Mrs. Bustedgrill. It's physics based with all the kines and biomech classes you'll take, but it's also very anatomy oriented. You apply all those kinesiological and biomechanical theories to the human body, so you'll have to know your anatomy very well.

It doesn't really matter whether you take physics or biology first. But it's really up to the individual. Personally, I took the Bio sequence in my second year and Physics during last year.

I would reccommend not taking it. I took the whole course back my Sophomore year because I was a BIO major.... now after 3 C+s my science GPA doesn't look so nice.... even though half my class dropped out all people see is a nice fish hook.
