OK, I am so bummed, I need some venting....I just got my grades for this semester. I took Ochem 1 and Physics 1. I got an A in Physics and an A in Ochem lab but a flippin' B in Ochem lecture!! I know I probably SHOULD be happy/content with a B but I studied my kiester off for that class!! What's worse is that I felt like I LEARNED more in Ochem than in Physics!!! I just felt like I was memorizing formulas and plugging in the numbers. I actually found Ochem very interesting which is why it was easier to devote a greater amount of study time to. +pissed+
I do have a question to all you Ochem/physics tortured souls: How many in your Ochem class got a D's and F's? I found it a bit discouraging that over 1/3 of my class got a D or F. Is that a bit extreme? I am just sooo frustrated because I really could not have put ANY more time into studying...I did EVERY SINGLE problem atleast twice!!! 😡
I just wish our lab and lecture grade was combined because then I definately would have made an A. I had the 2nd highest grade in lab, so I know I had a good grip on the material!!!
Now my GPA is about a 3.68 science...should I be so neurotic about this? OH, THE PAIN!!!! What else could I have done?!!!+pissed+
OK, I'm done now, thanks for listening!

you're fine, just try for the A in orgo 2, and it'll be all good. even if you don't get an A, your sci gpa is perfectly fine. keep it around a 3.7 and you;ll be none the happier for it. also if you think you learned o-chem better even though your grade doesn't necessarily show it, i'm sure your prowess will shine through on the MCAT section of o-chem. don't worry!

a B in orgo lecture won't kill you. i gotta a C (albeit didn't study). just suck it up and do better next semester

You're flippin over a B? Pre-meds...they're all the same. 😛

Just so you know, a "B" in organic is life-threatening...it is worse than anything else in the entire world. It will cause one to battle deep bouts of depression, and the chimes of SN2 and E2 will forever haunt your naive pre-med mind. Just when you think you have put it all behind you, you imagine a 50 ft tall benzene laughing at you, accompanied by horned hemiacetals, evil enantiomers, and a naked alkane. Run! They are coming for you, they want to subject you to NMR analysis, where you will be incinerated and then your body parts mapped out like bar codes on a piece of thin waxy paper. You have no chance at glory with a "B" in ochem...you might as well switch majors and head into finance...and a 3.68 gpa? uh oh, you're doomed! 🙄

I think a B in O-chem is very good indeed. Yeah, I agree with you about you learning more in o-chem than in physics. An A in lab is good also. I think I may end up with a B in lab. Ugh, I HATE that lab 😡
You are doing fine. Why waste the energy in worrying on something like that?

Don't worry about it! O-chem is a hard class. A "B" isn't going to kill you. Your science GPA is good so far.

thanks for the responses!
I'm NOT trying to sound like a "typical pre-med"...I know at times on this board things can get very "spazzy"---(ohmagod! I got a 30 on my MCAT!!! I got 40's on my practices...what should I do!!!) I'm just frustrated over getting a B after TRYING HARDER THAN I HAVE EVER TRIED BEFORE!!! It's frustrating to make an A in a class that you gave maybe 75% and a B in class that you practically gave your soul for!!!+pissed+ I was so close to getting an A, so I guess I am a bit "over doing it" by being upset about a B. I accept it, I won't dwell on it. I know I have as good of a chance as the next sore loser!!😛
Thanks for letting me vent!

At least you can take solace in the fact that your knowledge of organic will be of tremendous use in med school...😛

Hang in there.

   - sounds EXACTLY like the nightmares I had when I was taking ochem. Those classes left deep psychological scars. By the way, I was thrilled with my B in O'chem 2, which was achieved by sleeping only 4 hours a night for an entire semester. You think o'chem 1 is hard... muhahaha. 😉 Hang in there.

well, i got a higher grade in physics than ochem even though i hardly lifted a finger in physics. at my school, physics just wasn't that difficult if you were good at math. ochem on the other hand was something entirely new. a B is not bad. just keep up the hard work, and hopefully next semester you can get that A you wanted. the second semester of ochem was a little easier for me, because by that time i'd figured out what sort of tests the teacher gave and what studying for ochem was all about.

on a somewhat similar note, has anyone had their butt kicked by undergrad biochem??
my final is thursday and right now i'm doing worse than i have ever done in a class before, which means, yup, i could very well fail. . .and at most i'm going for a C+. . .
🙁
it's so depressing cause i'm studying so much now (i did slack off @ the beginning of the term) but to do all this work and know that the grade is going to be terrible anyway. . it's just frustrating.
not to mention the fact that i don't have an acceptance yet is leaving me praying that no one asks for an updated transcript until after/if they decide to take me. . .
ok thanks for letting me vent also 🙂
whew, i feel better!

yeah no kidding 🙄 what am i doing here? i finished all these damn prereqs in like 1994 or something!

hey, there's no harm in my venting.

i happen to be who i am- an undergrad for the time being, and just felt like expressing some frustration at my current circumstance, as i'm sure the OP did also.
perhaps you older and wiser folk could pass along a few words of encouragement, instead of disparagement, since you've already 'been there, done that?' 😉

i actually did pass along some words of encouragement above -- just wondering why i do it all the time. i need to get a life 🙂 wish i had some words about biochem, but i'm afraid i haven't taken it. i'm going to take it next semester as prep for med school.

oh, it's all good.

i just get a little 'sassy' late at nite, as my roomate tells
me. . . the sweet polite carebear tends to vanish w/inverse proportion to my sleep deprivation. . .

YOU get sassy at night? i can't believe some of the things i wrote last night  😳 😱 🙁 time for bed!

Sigh, and people wonder why premeds are so hated 🙁

If you dont mind me, Im going to go cry about being so close, yet so far from a 40. 😛

OK, sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but I am not your typical pre-med! I have already completed my undergrad and am now finishing my pre-reqs to apply (BS in education...not much science goin' on there). AND I am over 30 with alot more things on my plate than the average pre-med which is why I was venting! I practically gave up my LIFE for this semester striving for an A and when I didn't get it, I was a little bummed. I believe that's why this board was invented...it share info, share problems, etc. Sorry if it's so irritating for some of you "typical younger folk".🙄 😛
There's nothing wrong with venting.
Maybe Lee should add an "Already Done with Pre-med, Now Applying" board. That way, we won't bother the one's so far beyond us🙄 .
