Anybody know why Ethyl Bromide reacting with NaOH would go to E2 producing c=c ethene? I thought since it was primary halide with a strong nuc then it would be a sn2 rxn. thanx for any reply
 
It could, but E2 is favored over SN2 whenever possible, esp if you have a strong base.
