Orientation at UMiami consists of a bunch of sessions about the curriculum, loans, how to pay back loans and the interest that you will acquire, OSHA (protection against pricking yourself with needles), HIPPA, etc. There are also fairs discussing the various organizations/clubs present at UM and how you can get involved. There are also opportunities to buy medical equipment (stethescopes and the such) and scrubs. There will also be lunches with the second years (I'll be participating in these 😉 ), where you can ask them what to expect. At night, there will be parties around Miami where you can bond with your classmates and meet upperclassmen. Saturday will consist of Games Day, which is just an opportunity to bond with your classmates while playing sports. You will also find out which academic society you will be assigned to for the following 4 years. Academic societies are run by upperclassmen. During the year, you will have various sessions with your academic society, where you will be taught various clinical skills (i.e. how to take a history and a complete physical). That's pretty much it. Sorry I can't expand anymore, but I just started second year 2 days ago and I'm tired of studying all day. 🙁 See ya guys soon!🙂
