Orientation Week = Spring Break

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
my advice to all incoming ms1's is to enjoy orientation week while it lasts. after it's over your life will never be the same!

Orientation week is probably the most boring, useless time you will spend in medical school. It feels more like torture than a vacation.

Plus most of the food is paid for. My school likes to cater. Booya

I know some schools incorporate lectures during this time, which may add a little stress.

One of my friends just started and is now at full throttle and I don't even begin orientation until late August!

Perhaps the OP is referring to the fact that for many people, orientation week (ours is three days) is the most responsibility and guilt free party time of the entire year?

Our second years organize our first 'pre-orientation' event, which includes a bar night - I have been told that some people hit it a little too hard that night (and others during orientation).

BE CAREFUL. You can really make a mistake that will hurt you a lot at this time. (no, not personal experience)

Have a lot of fun, meet a lot of your classmates, because everyone is the most outgoing they will be for the next 4 years. Cliques form quickly.

It's party time! Go make friends, bitch about how stupid and worthless orientation is, and party like it's going out of style because, well, it is. You won't get many chances to let loose for the next 2 years, at least, so get it out of your system as much as possible.

I would have to side with this. We haven't gotten into Orientation yet, but we've gone out the past two night and its been the same people plus a few new. We're already extremely well-knit, and I know we're making sure we don't appear as a clique since we haven't met our other 250+ classmates.

this is so true. the people that partied during orientation became close because of it and remained friends throughout the first year. it seemed like the majority of my classmates that didn't go out had a more difficult time meeting people during the school year since there was little social time. i had fun during my orientation and don't regret going out every single night of that week 🙂
