I have practice exams coming up for my OSCE's I was just wondering what are some things that aren't related to the examinations themselves which I should be doing?
I don't mean confirmation of name etc or look for medical equipment e.g dialysis etc
E.g check expiry dates, look for name band, follow up examinations
Anything else that's obvious but i'm missing? Talking about simple things that are easy marks which I might overlook.
Also what's the answer to the age old question; auscultate before palpation on the abdominal examination? My demonstrator (Gen surgeon) told me always auscultate before palpating as palpation can cause bowel sounds etc, so I will however our clinical skills lead said it makes no difference really. Just curious on your opinions, i'll auscultate before palpation anyway.
