Can somebody explain what osmotic pressure is? I know the formula, but how can I apply the concept!!
E.g. KOH is a solute and when put into water the osmotic pressure increases, why???

If you add KOH to the pure water, u r making the pure water without osmosis(thus zero osmotic pressure) into pure water vs. solution.
U just made them fight each other for their two different concentration. So I am thinking that adding KOH causes the zero osmotic pressure to increase.

yeah joon is right good analogy

osmotic pressure = pressure that resists osmosis.

With increased "anything" of a solute, osmosis occurs. This increases the osmotic pressure to try to equilibrate.

osmotic pressure (pi) = iMRT

i = ion coefficient
R = gas constant
T = temp (kelvin)
M = molar mass

Hey thank you guys I think I got the concept!!!!
