Vitamin D, the stimulus, helps us to lay down bone by triggering osteoblasts to secrete Alk Phosphatase to mineralize bone. With Vitamin D def, why do osteoblasts suddenly become hyperactive??
It seems that this "hyperactivity" is the basis for the key word describing the path of osteomalacia as "defective" mineralization vs what you would rather think be "deficient" mineralization in the absence of the stimulus (Vitamin D).
