Times have changed! The once novel fundamental concepts of osteopaty have deteriorated over the years. Number oriented Osteopathy schools who are primarily concerned with their students performing well on the COMPLEX exams, are failing to adequately teach OMT to their students. This sad state affairs has created an environment in which osteopathy school have developed an image of being nothing but a "2 nd rate" medical school for students who did not peform well on the MCATS. Now, all a student needs to do is memorize a pamphlet on OMT and as long as their GPA/MCAT are good they are accepted. SHAME ON YOU Adcoms! who undermine your roots and the very basis of your existence.

How many times must I see posts of how just because your stats are low you should apply to Osteopathy School! How many times do people use osteopathy as their back up plan! How many times must md applicants post demeaning thread towards DO's!

THIS CAN END!

HERE IS HOW!

D.O. is a philoshopy that must be practiced by people who truly believe in the methods! If one is to have a complex of always being second rate.. he/she will perform as such!

Instead of just assuming that D.O is concerned with family medicine, the methods of OMT must have research to back it up. Osteopathic community must truly begin an effort to fund research that can reveal the benefits of OMT.

Those are some broad generalizations you are making. There are some students get accepted to both types of schools and choose DO over MD.

Let me stake my position clearly to all of you

My first choice .. yes first choice is osteopathy.. with allopathy being my second choice...

ok, I actually agree with your advice toward DO schools.. now please take your own advice and apply only to DO schools since they are your first choice in order to clear out spaces in the allopathic programs for those whose first choice is allopathic medicine. Fair is fair after all..

how about those urm's?

Why do a lot of people seem to hate DOs? I think especially if you're going to be a doctor you will have to work with them, and I hope this type of attitude doesn't show.

i dunno, but sounds to me like the OP isn't even trying to start a flame war or say MDs suck, DOs are better or vice versa.

It just sounds like he's trying to get a message out to the DO community without drawing comparisons between MDs and DOs, and sound his opinion.

He's got some good points that are applicable to DOs.

Please don't turn this into yet another war, when it doesn't even seem like there's anything in this post to war about...
