Did you get the interview from the DO side? I'm probably only ranking them on the MD side as well. I only ask because I heard some dual programs will only take DO's on the AOA side.

I've heard for Lehigh Valley it doesn't matter. Interview was sent to the AOA app but I asked if I should withdraw my AOA app and submit the ACGME one and they said no.
We like smart, hard working applicants. Don't believe the rumors that CA programs give priority to CA students.

I was told by multiple residents there that if a DO ranks them in the MD match they are telling them they are not important because if they were they would have just ranked them #1 in the DO match.
There is no way Lehigh would know which side you matched them on until the respective Match days. They would only know that you are or are not participating in one Match or the other.

Although residency is now well in the rear view mirror, I will read these occasionally. I don't know anything about this program or who the PD is but he/she should be made the king of SAEM for putting together what, on paper, sounds like the most effective EM resident curriculum I have ever seen.
The only reason a DO student would rank them in the MD match is because they aren't participating in the DO match so I think they would have to request to be ranked in the MD match.

I can see why they would think that. I guess that's how it goes, even if I don't think it's right.
When I applied to dual programs, I just selected them on ERAS and didn't have to request anything. That seems weird to me.
At this point in the season they are all out. Some programs will have their rol decided by mid December
3rd year osteo student here, wanting to know how important it is to have 3 EM LORs vs having one or two non-EM LORs. I'm nervous about how to even approach getting LORs
More EM letters the better. Also, more importantly, if you're trying AOA match is to audition at more DO programs.

Anyone else going to interviews and then hearing " oh well you're at a disadvantage because you didn't rotate here" or " if you want to be ranked high then you need to pick up some shifts". It's getting really frustrating because you can only rotate at so many places. If you're going to make rules like that then why even interview people who didn't rotate, at all? Plus I feel like at most programs there's always a handful of residents who didn't rotate at the program they matched at, so it can be done.
I second this. If you're doing AOA, rotating is more important. I didn't rotate at any DO programs, ended up with 1 AOA interview and 10+ ACGME.
Long time lurker, wanted to get a pulse on how our DOs are doing in the ACGME interview invites without a USMLE Step I? This question is not particular to you particularlyhighyield since I don't know if you've taken both exams but to anybody out there on the interview trail. I'm curious to know if it is worth applying to both matches. Gracias!
There are always going to be a few folks who match without, by why give yourself the stress?
I am biased (in an ACGME program), but unless there is a DO program at a geographically ideal site, I'd skip the AOA match altogether.
Take both, maximize your opportunities.
I matched without a USMLE, BUT that is the exception and not the rule. Take both or at least Step 2
I have an idea that might help everybody. As we interview, could we all please post what the ACGME accreditation status is for each of the programs? That seems to be an important focus of each interview, maybe we all benefit from knowing where each program stands. Thoughts?
I think there are only two this year: LSU - Shreveport and Drexel. Isn't this info available on ERAS? Either that or on the NRMP site when you make your list.
I don't think this is really a relevant metric to be concerned about, nor is it hard to find with the help of the googles.
I don't think you understood the proposal. He wasn't referring to ACGME programs on probation, but what the status of each AOA program is in terms of their plans for ACGME accreditation. Programs could begin applying for ACGME pre-accreditation this June.
It's very important for anyone applying AOA, and it's not something easily found on any program's site. Though it is brought up on interview day.

It is very important, there is a program in Ohio that just shut down instead of transitioning. ProMedica Monroe is applying for our ACGME accreditation in January.
Im from the MW and am wanting to practice residency in this region (osteopathic). Right now I am very interested in Joplin but need some other ideas for audition rotations next year. Any suggestions on good programs for the MW?
I wouldn't waste my time with Joplin. They are a great program but still operate on the good old boy system.
Lots of options in Michigan. I'd choose sparrow, Lakeland (not sure what their plan is with AOA match since they will be ACGME accredited soon), Genesys, and a maybe St James to name a few. There are a lot of programs in the Midwest if that's where you're looking to stay. Joplin you have to rotate from what I've read on here. They are a pretty small program. In general, with DO you should go all in and rotate at as many places as possible in the region you want. I've heard of people even doing one or two shifts before/after their interview, which is kind of ridiculous to me that programs out that pressure on applicants.
I don't know the status, but Hamot is hitting the ground running - they replaced the DO PD with an MD, and both the associate PDs are DOs that did ACGME residencies. Now, the question is whether they'll pony up the money for the two more residency spots (ACGME says minimum resident complement is 6).
Pending their acgme application acceptance they will be going to 3 years and 6 residents per class. They will find out in March whether 2016 class will be 3 year and then 2017 they will be taking 6 residents. They already have a 3 year curriculum in place and ready to go. This is all per the PD.

Is there anyone who interviewed at CCOM St. James who knows where you're supposed to meet the morning of the interview? The original interview confirmation e mail just said meet at 7am but not where... I tried e mailing their coordinator with no reply back..

Oldish post, I know, but why did they ditch the DO PD? The EM RRC has said they will recognize AOA- trained physicians as eligible to serve as PDs.
Yes I received a call from doctors. I thought they called all of the people that interviewed.
They do. They tell their top 8 or 10 that they will match if they rank #1, they tell others that they are ranking them competitively to match, and so on and so forth.

I'm a 3rd year osteo student and unfortunately my site doesn't allow us to do our required EM rotation until 4th year so I have mine scheduled for July, the first rotation of my 4th year. Other students ahead of me have said that I will get a strong letter from my EM preceptor, but the problem is that there is no EM residency here. Would it be better for me to do an audition EM rotation in July and risk looking green but have the chance to get an SLOE? Or should I stick with my EM core rotation here just to get experience before starting my auditions. I'm planning on doing AOA only.
Also, do people audition in December or is it pointless by then?

Better to do a rotation at a site with a residency that way the SLOE will be more heavily weighted. Its OK to look green on your first EM rotation, they will know it is your first just be enthusiastic, arrive early and don't look eager to leave and be ready to learn. Try to get feedback on how you did and what they think of you, that way you will be able to gauge whether or not it is a good SLOE or not. On that note, try to get at a minimum of 2 SLOEs. Ideally try squeeze in another EM rotation if you can so that your one in July can be your first and get comfortable. On your other question - definitely book an audition in December. It might be the most important month in the audition season especially if you are at a place that you really want to go to. Most programs have at least 1 interview date in December if not more. The closer you are to the ranking and match day the more fresh you are in their minds.

I agree with except the time of year you interview. Data shows that it doesn't really make a different overall, although some programs start building their rank lists immediately ad revenue each interview, I think the majority just have a rank list meeting at the end of the season. If December is the only time you can rotate and get an interview at a place you really want to be, you should do it.
