Does anyone know of 1 good resource with information about the osteopathic residencies? Is there such a thing? I'm looking through the opportunities website, eras and feel lucky when the info is the same. Anyone not submitted all their applications for residency yet? (just kidding) Let me know how the search/process is going for you as I'm a bit frustrated...

EM DOland has been discussed on a bunch of threads in the past 6 months. I understand the search engine is stalled right now, but you might give it a wiggle over the weekend.

In the meantime you should check out www.saem.org
Go to the residency catalog and select osteopathic programs.
As has been said several times on this board, the most obvious hurdle that DO programs must clear to compete is a decent database with REAL websites.
Almost every allo. site in the US has a pretty little page with pics, stats, program details and contact info. It is rare to find an osteo program that has little more than a publicity shot of the facility and EM listed as a residency.
As corpsmanup and other veterans of this past year's trail have said, this put a pretty big damper on their enthusiasm for applying in the early match. It certainly has cooled mine.

That said, I am currently finishing my core rotations at St. Joe's in New Jersey. It is a site for the Seton Hall program. From what I have seen here, they are good peeps with strong didactics, good off service teaching, dedicated Peds ED time, a less-than-horrendous location(not Newark) with pretty good trauma Level 2 w/EM on every paged event. It is fairly new, (4 yrs. old) but the senior that I worked with this week was a guru that had a strong game. She was very honest about the program and had solid reasons for choosing her spot. She was also fairly blunt about issues surrounding the choice to go DO. Those have been discussed in detail in this forum and are worth a search.

Good luck.
H

Thanks for the info. Any advice on how to search for previous post? I try to use the search function and end up with 2,700 results, the first 20 having nothing to do with what I am seaching for and then I give up. Is there an "advanced" search to make things a little easier? thanks.

click on search and there'll be a blue text "advanced search" that you can click on
then you can search by forum and other parameters. :)

If you are interested in the region of the country, you should check out the program in Oklahoma City. Most of my new colleagues trained there and they all seem pretty solid. As far as DO residencies go, I think it has a very good reputation. From things I've seen and heard, I think you can get just about as good training in broad community EM there as you can anywhere else in the country regardless of osteo/allo affiliation.
