Osteopathic General Surgery Programs

Would someone graciously clear-up the muddy water surrounding the Osteopathic general surgery (GS) residency slots. Do these slots go unfilled every year? What are the potential advantages/ disadvantages to pursuing these AOA programs? How do the GS programs incorporate the internship year?

BTW, I hate the search function on this site. I tried to find the above information but was unable to do so. Any info is appreciated!
