Osteopathic Vs. Allopathic Residency

Could someone explain to me the benefits and negative aspects of an Osteopathic residency vs an Allopathic residency assuming I cover my AOA sponsored internship year in either case?

I am a fourth year DO student going into a MD residency and I think that 'in general' MD residencies are better but the choice should be personalized. Location, desire for fellowship, quality of education, and state of anticipated practice are the most important considerations for picking a program. For me, I did not want to practice in the 'big 5' states that require an AOA internship but I knew I wanted a fellowship. In my opinion, you have complete a high quality MD residency if you plan to pursue a fellowship (exceptions do exist). Although there are DO fellowships, their limited number and location make them less desirable. Hope this helps
