Are any of you guys doing residencies in internal medicine/endocrinology? Do you guys compete with allopaths for residency/post-graduate spots? Are they harder to get as an osteopath?

Everything is harder to get as an osteopath. The sooner you learn this, the better off you'll be.

Strike that..."they" say I'll have no problem matching that radiation tech spot in North Dakota. So nevermind...the sky is the limit!

hehhehehehe... I Know exactly how you feel.

Is it possible to block SDN? I was able to stop smoking this should be doable no?

These arguments go on and on and on. Basically, if you want something bad enough you will work hard, get the grades, get the board scores, and make the connections to get into the specialty of choice. Just set your sights on your goal and accomplish it!! Never mind the negative opinions

It depends on the specialty.

You could not rationally argue that it is more difficult to get a family practice residency as a D.O. than an M.D. --> you simply have more options.

I would probably throw in emergency medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics in that mix as well.

As an osteopathic physician, you may enter D.O. or M.D. residencies. You may apply to more residencies as a D.O. than an M.D. as a result.

Internal medicine will be fairly easy, being that there are plenty of both M.D. and D.O. residencies.

I'm not sure how many D.O. endocrinology fellowships there will be, but you will have to have good credentials to outcompete M.D.s at many places. This obviously will be after you complete IM.

Endocrine is a subspecialty and so will depend upon the amount of fellowships there are.
