In honor of the MSII's that could come, it would be nice to be able to do March 26 for Mexican food (my vote, ole!)
 
Yea, we're hit pretty hard between now and spring break. Pretty much any time after that would be workable for the MS2s. I don't know if there is any decent time for the MS1s, as spring of first year has a crazy testing schedule.

You need to at least be sure to coordinate with BUMedic's every-other weekend off. 🙂

I think it is a wonderful idea for you guys to get together a time or two before school starts up. My class and the MS1s did that...it's really nice to walk into orientation knowing a group of people. Also, it is nice of you to include MS1s and MS2s at some point...we like to get to know you guys and we're happy to answer your questions and give you a "realisitic" idea of what you'll be jumping into in August. 😀

I sure don't want you all to change it for me, but how bout' a week later? I forgot I'll be out of town that weekend.

Both March 26th and April 9th weekends are good for me. Keep in mind that April 9th is Easter weekend.

I didn't think about it being Easter. Doesn't matter for me as I'll be here anyways. Depends on everyone else.

Sounds to me that we might need to have more than one meeting.... lunch out twice in 6 months..... Now thats a treat.....

In that case, I vote that on the second date we go to Famous Dave's BBQ.......... Sweet,,,,,, totally adictive, say some time mid June? See if we can recruit some more members..

Not a bad idea. You could even have a third one right before orientation when most everyone has moved here. 🙂
 
That is the thought behind the madness I am sure... what is Dave's? is it really that addictive....

BTW.... Ever been to Stutt's in North Tulsa?
 
Famous Dave's is where the Kodiak use to be right by the Woodland Hills mall.

The food there will ruin you for life on BBQ..... It is by far the best in Tulsa.....me speaking as a true carnivore....

The best are the hot links and also the Georgia pulled pork,,, and you can't for get the ribs......

Now you're talking! I'm like that with a joint called Van's Pig Stand in Norman. I could eat there every day. My trim 😉 figure is grateful that my wife isn't a BBQ freak.

Easter wknd is good.. dinner would be better for a nicer meal, if that is what we are going to do.

Lets go toward April 9 dinner or April 10 lunch

In the meantime... anyone wanna get together for a lunch sometime in march, say a Friday like 12 March... lets go to the BBQ place... i am sure it is likely good for lunch....

I could probably do March 12, I don't have class on Fridays and I think Easter weekend would be fine.
 
I could be up for March 12th in addition to Easter weekend---dinner for both would be good. Let's throw in a pool hall or sports bar or something afterwards for some additional socialization...

March 26th is also a good date for me in case anyone prefers then....

I went to OSUCOM today and had the old scope checked out.... Dr. Meeks said it would do.... not emphatically but.... yeah... it...will....do.... (long and drawn out) Really nice guy too...!!!

Anyone else have a scope yet?

By "scope" do you mean microscope or stethoscope?

the school will hook you up with an MSII that will most likely sell you theirs. don't go buy a new one-- if you really don;t want to buy one, just find a person in the opposite histo lab section and you can share.

A friend of mine, in an act of blessing, is letting me use his scope this coming year as he will not be applying until next year for class of '09

lol an act of blessing to you but an act costing your second year a wad o' $$$. interesting how that ying-yang thing works. then again, i've known some second years that sell their scopes to other first years causing similar difficulties. personally i think the school should jsut buy them and eliminate the problem completely.
 
it is funny caveman..... during the time that I shadowed, interviewed, and came around, most everyone said that they did not buy their scope from their mentor.... it is funny though that I am sure that I am the exception... anyway,,,, better than getting one of the Leicas though...LOL
 
I may have one to sell, if anyone is interested. It's relatively new (only been used by 2 students) and in excellent condition. If you're interested, PM me.

that *is* kinda odd. in both my MS1 and MS2 years probably 90% of people bought their scopes from their mentors. i bet drmom's class is to blame for screwing up the system 😉
 
I bet you are right. My second year was out of town until the day before classes started, so I had to buy a scope, and many others in my class chose to buy scopes outside of the school for whatever reason.

ouch. what did that set you back? a new scope when i lookedi nto possibly buying one was i think was around $700. considering most people (except for those pathologists among us) won't use them past one semester, it's a huge waste of money if you don't have a buyer. but then again, it was probably time to get a new influx of scopes anyway-- who wants one that's 5 or 6 or more years old, lol.

another option is to check one out from your undergrad school. many undergrad schools check out scopes for miscellaneous reasons, and i can't imagine a professor being resistant to letting a medschool alum use one for a semester or so, even if you technically are no longer a student.

Sure, blame it on us 😉

Actually, Meek has gotten picky & has to approve all used scopes. That took a bunch of them out of the resale loop. Decent new ones when I was looking were around $1200.
