OSU-COM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Same story here, I did the best I could. It all seems like a blur. I felt like I did good and they were receptive to what I was saying, but it is hard to even remember exactly what I said...lol. Like RevDoc said, it was more like a conversation than an interview. We interviewed with the same two individuals.

Glad to hear that also, my interview was just as you both have said: very conversational and informal in the way it was conducted. Its exciting that you will definitely hear before Thanksgiving. Once you accepted, however, just be sure to join the facebook group!

How did/are you all going to send thank you letters? Written or email

I know marsh and Revdoc have already heard how my interview went....not so good! Granted I don't know if I am just being too hard on myself but I felt the whole interview was me defending myself, I did not really even have the opportunity to "talk" to them in a conversational manner. It was very stressful and nothing like what I was expecting!

I just hope that I am being too hard on myself but I still feel like for the most part I was attacked and had to defend myself for things that were completely out of my control.

Honestly I am debating the unthinkable....calling Lindsey to express concern!🙁

In general, people who interviewed with one set of interviewers felt a lot better about their interview e.g., Rev and I. That said, in retrospect, I can think of numerous things I should have said that I didn't as well as things I would have liked to articulate better. I am sure the ACOM accounts for variations in interviewers' styles and scores. They know the personalities of their interviewers. I was not in your interview, so I really don’t know, but I would try to relax.

I don’t know about calling Lindsey either, anybody else have thoughts on that? I think what’s done is done and it probably isn't as bad as you think. By the way, very nice to meet you 🙂

I was trying to Facebook some of the others in my group and ask them about it! I don't think I will call Lindsey because I agree that what is done is done, it is out of my control now so I hope all goes well and I end up getting accepted! It was very nice to meet you as well Marsh...best of luck although I don't think you need it!

What happend or went down? Feel free to PM me if you dont want it public.

Seems like you got it figured out lol, but anyways after hearing your story I think there is some over reaction. Just be confident in yourself and you'll be fine.

If you were going to say something to Lindsey, I think you should have done it that afternoon at the interview.... That said, you probably are being too hard on yourself CG - you are very personable and friendly and I'm sure that the Adcom recognizes that as well as your Academic record. As we were talking about before, the interviewers make comments to the Adcom, but the people on the committee that we met were Lindsey, Dr. Stevens, and Dr. Stewart so I wouldn't sweat it.

By the way, do any of you earlier guys remember who your interviewers were?

I forgot to ask them what the typical odds of being accepted were among people interviewing in the second round. I am thinking maybe 15 out of 24, maybe a little lower. Maybe higher? Any thoughts?

I agree I think I have decided to let it go...what's done is done and it is out of my hands now. I just hope in some way they saw the real me but not sure how with no personable questions but maybe that was the point!? Now it's just a matter of let me wait and see...but if you could please say a prayer for me to relax! I am so thankful that I got as far as I did regardless of the outcome!

I was reading through the interview feedback that you guys had posted from the interview and I had no questions like that what so ever, nothing remotely similar. I just wonder WHY I didn't get asked anything like that, it seems that the others in my group got asked similar personal questions...but unfortunately for me..nothing!

OSU doesn't set standard questions to be asked or anything so don't worry about that. Seriously I think you're over analyzing and just new to relax.

Thanks everyone for your kind words...I have come to terms with it so no more negativity from me, sorry to be bothersome...sometimes you just have to freak out about things in order to have people you don't even know but know what you going through bring you back down to reality....so thanks everyone once again!!! 😛

By the way, do any of you earlier guys remember who your interviewers were?

Dr. Shaw and Dr Wansley for my group. The other group was Dr Hamilton and Dr Champlin

My Group: Dr. Tammi Lahr, D.O. and Dr. Robert Allen, Ph.D.

Other Group: Dr. Brian Diener, D.O. and Dr. Earl Blewett, Ph.D.

I am finally verified hoping to hear a word soon.

Good luck! I hope to see you on admitted student day!

Thanks I made final waitlist last year and with luck will gain admittance this year.

Good luck to everyone waiting! 🙂

DRMRL are you waiting too, when did you interview? I have a friend that was accepted last year and she got the news in three days...thats a fast turn around!

My friend just got her interview call she is December 2nd anyone else interviewing on that day?

Wow, three days is fast. I woke up this morning thinking it was possible to receive a call today...wishful thinking I guess.

Haha but no one knows, or atleast I dont, if two different committees decide interviews and acceptances... but well see...

I had Dr. Curtis (PhD) and Dr. Ellis (D.O. and OMT professor). Both were very nice and it made for an enjoyable interview.

I interviewed on nov 12th, and had Dr. Harriet Shaw, DO (head of the OMM dept) and Dr. Kirby Jarolim, PhD (Chair of Anatomy). Both were very friendly, pleasant, and made the interview relaxed. The other group of interviewers on our day was Chris Thurman, DO and Doris Patneau, PhD. But I cant speak to their demeanor.

Ok - just saw something that sucks. I have some friends applying to TAMU so I check on them at times. One cat over there interviewed last Thurs (Nov 12) and he got an acceptance email today! WOW

C'mon Dr. Stewart - call me. I know you want me at your school and you KNOW I want to go there! Please.

Nov. 16th is the Texas state school first round of acceptances. I interviewed at TAMU when I was a Texas resident, waitlisted, but the first round of acceptances is mid November regardless of when you interview. I have a good feeling about tomorrow for us, don't know why.

Your cracking me up Rev...I love your enthusiasm! Maybe if we say it X amount of times, it will happen. Please Please Please Dr. Stewart call me soon, I am distracted and need to know! 😀

I've got an interview on 11-30 and was wondering if anyone that has interviewed so far had any pointers or could tell me what to expect.

Also, to those of you already accepted (congratulations!) how long did it take you to find out? Just wondering because I was accepted at KCUMB but OSU if my first choice and I'm hoping to be accepted there before having to pay the $1000 non refundable deposit to KC on 12/15

There standard answer is two weeks but usually a little earlier.

I was verified on friday 13/11 and got my interview call on 11/16, anyone else have that quick of a turn around?

Is January the thirteenth month? 😀
Very quick turn around, but I think luck played a big part of it, probably got in last minute before committee got together.
Care to share your stats?

(11/13, sorry for the error, probably why I did so bad on the essay portion of the mcat) My stats were, 3.43 GPA and 27M on mcat

What day are you interviewing?

Anybody know when Med-X is coming up, was in January last year, I highly recommend potential applicants/interviewees to attend. I'm thinking about going for my fourth time in a row. Why? I have know idea except to say I really enjoy the school and what better things do I have to do?

I would like to go.

Just one, as a golfer I must ask, who is the little one with the club? Are you grooming a future T.Woods?

It's my 6 year old., I think he was four or just turned five in the picture. The kid beats me on par threes sometimes. He's been golfing for three years on full size courses ( I let him drop off about 150 yards short and he can reach in two). Somebody has to pay for my retirement

As far as med-x goes, you really are missing out if you are an in state applicant and have never attended.

I will probably go to Med-X just so my Fiance can get a good feel for the school, she hasn't been on a tour yet and that will be a great time in my opinion.

LOL...good deal. Ironically, golf was a good topic in my interview. Apparently Dr. Jarolim likes the game.

Most definitly. I heard a rumor, is it true phlame?

Forgot to mention that the dang kid chipped one in out of the rough before I ever did.

I was out of state last year, so I didnt really have a good opportunity or I would have. But I will make the next one for sure regardless of my acceptance status.

If he has already chipped in, he is going to be a lifer. You never forget that feeling.

I played last week for the first time in a couple months, it did not go so well. No chip ins for me.

Free lunch, and it's just as good as the interview food

I played very little this summer/fall with mcat, classes and application. I told my golfing partners to be ready for twice a week in the spring (only taking 7 hours) and three times a week in the summer ( first time with no classes)

Well then, for that reason alone count me in. That was good stuff, certainly better than expected.

Well, another day of work tomorrow dreaming of medical school in my cube at the health department...
