AVG matriculation according to http://www.healthsciences.okstate.edu/student/admissions/matrprofile.cfm

  • MCAT Average: 8.7
  • Average Overall GPA: 3.64
  • Average Science GPA: 3.58
  • Oklahoma: 73 (83%)
  • Non-Resident: 15 (17%)
  • Male: 53%
  • Female: 47%
  • Ethnic Minorities: 31%
  • Average Age: 25
Therefore AVG MCAT = 26.1 (8.7*3) aka ~26
25 shouldn't hurt and as previous people said, number 25's and up have been accepted already.

The numbers above are for my class (2012). For 2013 the numbers are similar, but increased in all the GPA's and I'm pretty sure the MCAT is a tenth or so below 27 now. Avg's are just that, averages. If you are lower in one area, try to bring it up in another. Remember, they look at your WHOLE application, not just scores. (though the scores do help 😉 )

ACCEPTED!!

It feels so good to hold the letter in my hands. Can't wait to tell those other schools "thanks, but no thanks."

Got an interview for the 20th. Anyone else with me?

If they are interviewing the 20th, you think people that interview the 11th,12th, & 13th are going to know before Thanksgiving? The committee probably only meets once a month, right? Seems doubtful to me

Congrats! What day did you interview?

I was hoping that the committe met after each round - better idea of students the closer to the interview they meet. And really hoping to hear the phone ring, with the glorious, "Congratulations, you're in the OSU class of 2014!" before Thanksgiving. There would be mucho thanks giving if that were the case!!

I was looking over the interview feedback and noticed only four people have posted. Several people have posted acceptances, remember to be kind and help out the following rounds.

I would be singing hallelujah all the way through the OKC turkey trot

I am sure everyone will hear the news they want soon enough!

I don't think I could wait that long, but who knows. It will be close, I am thinking Nov 23. Did anybody get accepted on here with a MCAT as low as 25?

Hopefully I get accepted with a 22...I know I know it's low but I got an interview and doesn't that make me on even playing field with everyone else, now it's about personality and potential right!

I know, thats what I keep telling myself. They saw something else in our apps besides that stupid test. Now we just have to show them the charm 😀

You know, I was real skeptical about the "whole" applicant approach. I thought ok, they may look at the whole package at the final decision but surely for the interviews it would be strictly GPA/MCAT. Boy was I wrong, there has been a wide range this year with some lower numbers, NOT THAT I AM OPPOSED, just surprised in a good way. Thankful in my case.

Good luck

I really hope there are people on SDN interviewing on the 20th with me. I could not interview on the 19th, thus I had to change to the 20th. I'm very excited because D.O. is my first choice, honestly. I love the philosophy. Anyways, does anyone the know the turnaround time between interview and notification of acceptance? I hope its only 2 weeks....

Turn around time can be whatever the ADCOM wants it to be lol... however... in my research I've found 15 days to be the most, typical is around 7-10 days, and I know of one case where they were accepted the day after.

Next day acceptance?!? Was that this year? I have a new time to pray for lol

Just me - if you don't mind me asking, what is your gpa and story? A 22 MCAT is pretty low I would think for early interviews - KUDOS to you for landing the spot! I don't put a lot of stock in the MCAT.

Hi, I'm an OOS and just got my complete email yesterday (though I'd confirmed a week or two ago via phone that my app was complete), any guesses on how long it may take to get an interview invite (stats decent: cGPA 3.71, sGPA 3.35, MCAT 27R)?

No way to tell, osu is not oos friendly. I think the next interview invites to go out are in December.

Yeah, I'd heard/read that. I'm just hoping the fact that they send recruiters to my school every year and that Lindsey highly encouraged applying if I hadn't is a good sign...

next day acceptance is not the norm. I think it was a thursday interview and the committee met and phoned on friday. normally they meet the week (sometimes two weeks) after then call on the following monday.

I don't mind I was actually AMAZED myself! I have a 3.93 overall GPA and a 3.87 Science GPA, the only thing I can think of is that my GPA is what got me through, plus I submitted fairly early but OSU did not even get my application until sometime in September because AACOMAS took so long (oh well I know they are busy)...I conisder my circumstances a blessing I never would have thought I would be called for an interview.

From what I hear the admissions committee only meets once a month and if that is the case we may not hear until after Thanksgiving 🙁

They meet more than once a month, they would have to because the met the day before our acceptance offers going out, and since next round interview offers were already going out... just my guess

Anyways not bad! I just can't wait for the next 8 months to pass...

Someone just gave interview feedback on OSU and talked about how the interviewers had his/her file open and was asking questions about his/her application....isn't OSU's interview a closed file interview?

Also, do you have one interview with a pair of interviewers or two seperate interviews with one interviewer each? Someone confused me about this setup the other day.

They have your file but the grades and mcat score is blank. Two interviewers at the same time

Nice, I thought that they didn't know anything about you. Thanks for the reply, that helps out alot.

Just Me - youve got a pretty impressive GPA! I would say that is def the reason for the invite. And again, why I don't put much stock in a standardized test. Made me sick when I found out that a scientific community like physicians place such a high priority on such. Standardized tests have been debunked, as far as predicting future success, for years! Good luck.

Standardized test have a purpose just like anything else, they are the toilet paper that sticks to your foot and so people laugh at you when you walk out of the bathroom... sigh..

Hey guys! I got the call today for an invite to interview!
Anyone else going to interview on November 11th?

soooo i was at work today and i was thinking about getting accepted to med school.

i think today marked a checkpoint in my mind. today was really the first time i thought, "holy crapola, i'm really gonna do this thing....i'm not just bullsh*tting myself anymore!"

if you had asked me about 5 years ago if i ever thought i'd make it to this point, ida probably made some assinine comment and scowled at you coldly....and then felt like a failure.

so i'm excited and i kinda want to start medical school right now.

no real point to this post... just thought i'd share my thoughts with others who really know what this feels like.

I am half way there lol. I have alot coming up in my life and I think my mind is a bit overwhelmed, so alot hasn't sunk in (im getting married, buying a house, starting med school, etc)

Congrats..12th for me, I haven't seen anybody on here that is interviewing the 11th. Of course I am too lazy to go back through the thread and verify this.

I wish I could have done it the 11th. But of course I just happened to have a business trip scheduled the one week they wanted me to interview, I guess that’s how life works. Funny thing is, I actually thought as I booked my flight, what if OSU calls me for an interview. Thank god I am coming back the 11th, they didn’t offer the 13th to me.

Good luck to you

Congrats on the interview BigDog. Call for the 11th yesterday? I wonder why theyve been filling the third round for a week now, and then they call in an invite for next Wed (second round). At any rate, good luck - Im scheduled for the 12th.

Probably someone withdrew

That's right just one. Originally I was set for the 19th. Then someone withdrew, so I got their spot. Does anybody have any advice for the interview?

Relax, be yourself, and answer concisely and honestly!

Might be smart to write down any questions you have so you don't forget, and so it will also help your organize any thoughts.

I know this has been posted in this thread before, but the MCAT will always be a part of med school entrance. Its the only real bar that they have to gauge your ability to rationalize through a taxing exam. They may not show you the best future Dr's, but they do help show how you "might" do on boards. There is no one class that you can take in undergrad that they can look at to compare to that beast. I'm in the very early stages of board prep and its pretty overwhelming, not even gonna lie. You can smoke all of your med school classes, but if you can't pass boards you can't get registered/certified, and you definitely can't graduate. NO ONE discusses the MCAT at med school, but you have to jump that hurdle to get there. Its kind of a "right of passage" I guess you could say.

Is it true that OSUCOM only accepts LOR's through snail mail? So they won't accept my VirtualEval account? (I've emailed them about it but havent heard back--which is suprising, usually they get back quickly!)

No... they do virtual eval and portfolio i believe. I know virtual eval for a fact because my school does the Committee letter via that and it was received promptly. I did however have my DO letter sent via snail mail.

OSU is very phone friendly, call and you will get answer immediatly. Lindsey and Sarah are great.

How long do you all have to definitely accept OSU's offer. They must give you all time to at least find out your status with OU.

Secondly, some people are offered scholarships. When do you find out the status of those?

After you pay the deposit, due by December 15 (at least for first round) the deposit is refundable til April 15. I think you are crazy if you think they plan their school around anything OU. We were told on our interview day that we were not to expect scholorships first year, except service or the native American ones.

Ok, I'm crazy, but I'd be surprised if school administrators were not aware that 90% or more of their student body also interviewed at a school whose clinic was a few hundred yards away.

My sentiments exactly. It's awesome to finally know it's going to happen.

You have your personal motivations and if OU is your first choice, then go for it. Either way you have till Dec 15th to accept and pay the deposit if you do receive an acceptance before that date. However, a schools goal is to fill their roster with worthy students and not worry about other schools. Therefore, if you want to wait for OU, that is on your own time and not the schools and so time doesn't matter to them, they are just following AACOM guidlines for acceptance dates.

Your assumption is not anywhere near true. I have months to decide where I will apply, but, at this point, OSU is my first choice. In fact, I may apply there exclusively. I live and own a home in Tulsa and I know and like many of the students at OSU as well as the residents and doctors who came from there. I was just asking a question about timing and options. I see that many, if not most, students who interviewed at OSU are also interviewing at OU - this seems to be a reasonable thing for them to do and I was wondering how the timing issue worked out. The two schools are drawing from nearly the same pool of applicants and therefore in reality must be aware of that fact. They'd be foolish if they didn't take into account each other's policies. I don't think that they are foolish.

What would they gain by adjusting their schedule to OU's? So what people apply to both, both have an April 15 deadline for refunds on a small deposit. What you are suggesting is that OSU should delay their deadline until OU has a chance to decide on the same candidate. That is ridiculus because if the student selects OU, then OSU loses. I say again, what would the benefit be for OSU

I can guarantee that OU doesn't consider OSU's time line so the reciprocal doesn't occur either. They may be drawing on the same pool, but most students have their mind made up before interviews start and so in my opinion, such measures would be unnecessary.

I'm not making any suggestions at all. Next year I'll be in the same boat that you all were this year. Where do I apply to and what situations will that put me in if Scenario A, Scenario B, Scenario C etc? What financial issues will I face; what information will I have in November, December, January. That's all I was asking. I'm sorry to upset you. Look, I know you all must be on an emotional high right now, but come on, don't lynch me till the trial starts. Please.
