Hey guys, I recently got accepted to both KCUMB an OSUCOM. Although my signature says OSUCOM class of 2016, I'm still debating which school I want to attend

I'm from Texas, so I would be OOS for both schools. Both schools have great programs. Is the Genesis curriculum that much better than the traditional curriculum OSU uses? How about reputation? Which school would you choose?

Any insight or input would be greatly appreciated. I know these discussions are always subjective, and there is no such thing as "better DO school". I just want to hear your guys input or opinions. Thank you 🙂

Honestly, the least important thing in my opinion is the first 2 years curriculum. I go to KCUMB and am really happy with my education. However, I've met some OSU students during the interview circuit and they were solid students. Its pretty cool that they have their own hospital. Major advantage over other schools.

Thanks for your advice WDeagle. I usually have trouble deciding if I want to get the chicken or beef chalupa at Taco Bell, so you can imagine how hard it must be for me to chose what med school I'm going attend haha.

The important thing here is: do you want to stay in Ohio for 5 years after you graduate?

OSU is Oklahoma State University lol. But yea, I could see myself living in OK, it is close to Texas.

....:smack:

Does OSUCOM have rotations near home? If so, that seems the better choice.

They have their own teaching hospitals in Tulsa and OKC, so most people do them there. But yea, being close to home sounds appealing. But I really like KCUMB's diversity of people, I hear that's one thing OSU is lacking

You just have to go to the school that feels right to you. You'll get the education at both schools. IMO, school does not play a big role in matching, its the student and what they do while in school.

The dancing banana doesn't lie. I would choose KC because I like being in the hood and I could eat Arthur Bryants and Gates BBQ daily.

Haha every day? I also hear KC has a Burger King Whopper Bar! In terms of food, KC has it down

Don't know much about either school, but isn't OSU the home of the talking legend Goljan?

Im actually from Tulsa and got into both OSUCOM and KCUMB, interviewed a week between the two. So far, I have decided to put down a deposit for KCUMB over OSUCOM for a variety of reasons that are personally important. I have lived in Tulsa for a long time. Its a nice city don't get me wrong, but I studied in New Orleans for undergrad and I just need something a little bit more exciting than looking forward to what movie is playing at the amc. Besides location the school itself. Both supply an excellent education however KCUMB is tailored to the more traditional student. OSUCOM is great for people who are married, with children, and 30+. Half the people in my interview group were older folks looking to get into medicine later in life. Don't get me wrong, there ARE single students there. But with a class size of around 95 that isn't a whole lot of branching out space. The school is also a little dated and small overall (Yes construction is in progress but many classes are held on the undergrad OSU-Tulsa Campus which is kindof annoying to be surrounded by undergrads). I have spent many and hour volunteering at OSU's teaching hospital. It is a great facility no doubt! However, just because you go to OSU doesn't secure you a spot in their teaching hospital. On the contrary, I was in the Interventional Radiology dept. and students were from all over the place. You really need to pick the school you like the most and excel there. And even when I look at tuition cost, OSU is half the price for me personally but I just don't think it would be worth it. For me.

Just sayin. You can take it or leave it, but I think KCUMB is an overall better choice.
